The fact that someone with clear ethical issues has been promoted to the top 20 after just a few months of success clearly demonstrates how desperately the Steem blockchain needs developers. This fact alone highlights the current state of the Steemit ecosystem.

In reality, Steem is struggling due to a lack of developers. But the more important issue is that talented developers have little incentive to stay on Steem. If the same investment of time and effort could yield significantly greater results on another blockchain, why would they choose Steem?

Therefore, rather than endlessly arguing over one person's past, the real question we should be asking is this:
Why is Steem still stuck in the past? Why is it lagging behind while other blockchains are innovating?

And why do so many developers still choose other blockchains over Steem? STEEM Witnesses seem unable to even properly address the reasons why.
