👣 Step-by-Step Guide in Cooking Beans and Potatoes in the local way

Step 1: Soaking the Beans

Firstly, I started by pouring all the 3 cups of beans into a bowl of clean water. After a few minutes, I noticed that the light skin were already floating on top. So I gently removed it with my hand. This helps clean the beans and makes them cook more faster and softer.

Step 2: Setting Up the Fire

My gas cylinder was almost empty, so I decided to use firewood. I searched the house and found an old black pot we do used in time of no gas. It was really perfect for this kind of cooking. I gathered some dry sticks and used water nylon to start the fire. Within one minute, the flames were found to be strong and steady.

Step 3. Boiling the Beans
1000103792.jpg1000104749.jpg

I placed the pot of beans on the fire. While it was boiling, I peeled the 6 medium-sized potatoes, washed them very well and then sliced them into smaller pieces. After that I kept them aside for later use.

Step 4: Parboiling the Beans

After some time, I checked up on the pot and saw the beans boiling very well. I used a shifter to drain the water. However, this method really helps to remove excess starch in the beans and makes the beans to be more softer. Then i poured the beans back into the pot.

Step 5: Adding the Potatoes

I then added the sliced potatoes into the pot with the beans. I covered the pot and allowed it to cook more. I thank there wasn't much breeze at the moment, which helps in making the fire to be steady, and the smell of the beans was already everywhere.

Step 6: Preparing the Ingredients
1000104971.jpg1000104973.jpg

While the beans and potatoes were cooking, I pounded the fresh pepper and I then sliced the two onions. I added both into the pot. However, I then add two Maggi cubes and a spoon measurement of the salt from the sachet. I stirred everything gently so the potatoes wouldn’t break apart.

Step 7: Finishing with Palm Oil

I waited for some time and I the finally added the palm oil. I didn’t want to overcook it, so I let it boil for just 30 seconds. The oil gave the food a rich color also a well flavored and deep taste.

Step 8: Food Is Ready!
1000104744.jpg1000104746.jpg

I checked my pot of delicious beans and potatoes and I must say everything was done. The beans were soft, the potatoes were more tender. Truth be told the aroma was mouthwatering. I removed the pot from the fire and served myself a hot plate of beans and potatoes.

Truth to be told, this meal I cooked is affordable full of flavor. And also Cooking it with firewood gave it a special taste that gas can’t give no matter what. So If you ever find yourself low on gas or just want to enjoy traditional cooking meals, try this method. You don’t need much things— it'sjust your black pot, some basic ingredients, and a little patience you are good to go. And sooner or later you will be enjoying your meal.
