Pictures tell a thousand stories-Wk23"
An Account of Happiness and Fresh Starts.
This is a picture of an instant that gave me great pride and joy and this is not just a photograph, but it is a testament of how hard my sister works as well as celebrating a great milestone in her life.
In this picture, I have a picture of my sister, bright and smiling with an unconditional happiness probably on one of the most exciting days of her life to date. It was captured yesterday at the time she had been registered as a student in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria. In case one is unfamiliar with it, NYSC is a mandatory one-year service program to Nigerian graduates. It is a rite of passage, a period where youngsters are expected to work towards the development of the country and, more so, it is a time that enables children to grow and mature into adults.
The spirit of this image is the tale of the hard work, dreams and the sweet taste of success. And I have been following my sister through the years becoming part of her studies, reading many books and the amount of effort she puts in getting what she wants. The possibility to see her in this uniform with the traditional green and white cap raised high is the sight that proves that all these hard work has finally paid off. Her smile is sincere and goes all the way even to her eyes as well as showing the excitement and anticipation that she has regarding the journey that will be taken by her.
This was not a professional photoshoot rather a casual moment taken by one of her friends and that is what renders it so strong. It feels authentic and real. The setting with other corps men in their uniform contributes to the feeling of belonging and experience. It makes me recall the numerous tales of friendship, obstacles, and self-development that are conceived within these camps.
The fact that my sister is joining the NYSC is a huge congratulation to her. It is the conclusion of one episode of her college life and the start of another exciting episode. This image acts as a lovely reminder that even the smallest or the biggest of achievements should be celebrated. It gives me the drive to continue on in my personal life as well as to rejoice in the successes of the people I cherish. It is a tale of hope, pride, and a bright future and a story which I was so pleased to tell.
