Health: The Dangers of Overusing Medication for Children
Our health is very very important and it should be prioritized from a very young age. I have seen an issue with kids which has become alarming. One of the disturbing things I have seen is overfeeding children with junk food. When children become obese, some parents see it as a sign of healthiness but the truth is that it is not. Another problem has been the overuse and abuse of medication.
Every parent want the best for their children, from good shelter, food, education and good health. Parents do their best to make sure their children look healthy, sound healthy and otherwise. But sometimes this love for their children to become the best or stand usually means they overdo something.
Out of that need to make sure their children don't feel bodily pains, fever, stomaches, headaches, cold, cough etc, this gives rise to an overuse of medication. Taking this path might be really dangerous for the kids in the nearest future.

The real truth is that no matter how we try to keep our children always healthy there will get sick at some point. As parents, we will try our best to make sure they have a great hygiene but then at some point, there will be stomaches, cold, fevers, coughs and other sicknesses. The problem isn't these sicknesses that comes to the kids sometimes but the quick rush to give them medication without proper check-up by a medical personnel.
Some of us were given sleeping syrups or tablets to make us sleep. When we played too much without resting, mom will always want us to rest and one of those ways was to give us sleeping syrups to make us sleep. This wasn't entirely good especially when the medication was out of dosages.
Another mistakes parents do are to give us medication based on their own dosages...I see parents who overdose pain relievers to children...they always say, one is not enough, take two tablets. The abuse of medication especially pain relievers has long term danger to the children.
Dangers of Overusing Medication |
---|
Kidney and liver issues: Administering pain relievers excessively especially NSAIDs isn't healthy for a child over a long term. The kidneys and livers can be at high risk. Putting these two organs in danger means bad health for the child.
Addiction to Medication: Being addicted to some medication will always lead to abuse of the medication. No parent would want their child to abuse medication in the long run.
Side Effects and Allergies: overuse of these medications might cause side effects which includes rashes, dizziness, vomiting etc.
The body might start being resistant to this medication because the organs of the body has gotten use to its intake.
Parents should be mindful about over usage of medication for the kids.
Before giving out medication, seek medical expertise. Don't give more than the prescribed dosage. Every cold or fever should be met with medication, sometimes it is the body reacting to alien in the body system.
The dangers of over using medication can be extreme, so parents should be mindful of how they give it to their kids.
