I thought I was fine even though I was still having headache and fever every evening. But I was thinking that it is recovery stage. But guess what? I have never felt headache like the one I felt yesterday, the fever too. I began to wonder what could have been the problem. I couldn't cope at all, I was alone in my lodge in the school premises and I needed to buy at least paracetamol that could sustain me till morning.

I had to manage but my husband insisted that I find a way to get paracetamol. Well, there is this elderly man who is the HOD in the press department of the school who is very caring and always looks after my wellbeing. He was the only one I could think of that night. But I don't like disturbing him with my problems because he can give you everything he has just to make sure you are fine. But I had no options that night. I put a call across, telling him my situation and pleaded with him to help me with paracetamol if he has.

Do you know that this man did not only come with paracetamol but also came with tea and bread. He knows that I don't cook where I am staying and that I may not have taken food. Of a truth, I ate by 12 noon and then my husband's auntie gave me pepper soup which I ate that evening. Well, I was grateful that he came with the tablet and tea. He was there to make sure that I took the tablets and drank the tea before left. What a kind and generous man! With that, I was able to sleep well at night. I felt better in the morning and then went to the gym because working out helps me a little especially when I am sick. Here below is my gym workout video for Thursday and a glimpse of the one I did on Monday before travelling.

This Thursday morning, I decided that I will go for a lab test especially because our family doctor and his hospital is in Aba city where I am working. I put a call across to the doctor because I still have his number. He told me to go for it and that he will be there later. Upon getting there, I met some old nurses and midwives that I knew back then, this is 14 years now. They still recognised me. I was quickly attended to. I had to pay for my card, then they checked my BP and body weight. My BP is normal and my weight is 82kg. I will and reduce this weight soon. Then I was asked to get my urine and then go to the lab section for blood specimen. I was billed 14000 Naira (70 steem) for the test. They are checking for pregnancy test, malaria, typhoid, ulcer and others including blood volume. The pictures I took are below

The first 2 pictures (from left to right) are at the entrance of the hospital.

The third picture is my first point of call. That is Nurse Nkiru that was a student Nurse when I was going for my antenatal, she is now a full nurse. She checked my BP, weight and admitted me. Then she sent me for the test.

The 4th and 5th are the ones I took at the lab where they took my blood sample.

Then the last one is my hospital card and folder.

Then I was asked to return for the result and to see the doctor too. I quickly went back to school, met my HOD and explained my situation to him. He understood and told me to go and treat himself. I then went to my lodge, packed my bag and left by 3.30 pm to the hospital. As soon as I got there, I was given access to the doctor immediately.

Dr Onwere was so happy to receive me. We were in Very good terms and he was so good to my family. I gave birth to my both kids there. He engaged me in a discussion, congratulating me on my new employment. He then explained the result of the test to me

  • Pregnancy test is negative

  • Blood volume is 63%. He said it's low perhaps due to high fever.

  • I have high malaria and thyroid

  • My urine is clear

He then told me to commence treatment immediately. But I told him that I will do that later since I had run out of cash. Yes. I have started working but my payment or salary is yet to be processed along with most staff who started with me. We are told to be patient let's see how August end will be. Perhaps they may start paying by then. I have been spending money to and from my work place since it's in another city. I travel on Tuesdays and return on Fridays in most weeks. After explaining to him, he told me that he will give me treatment, that I can pay whenever they pay me. My bill was 25000 Naira (125 steem) but he slashed it to 15000 Naira (75 steem) and gave me the account details for me to transfer whenever I am ready. Wow! It was amazing! I was so happy and thanked him dearly. There and then, he invited the pharmacist and told her to give me injection and the prescribed tablets.

After receiving treatment, I went to the park to take a bus back to my family because I need to start my program in the school where I just got admission to upgrade my certificate. I will explain this in my future post as soon as I get my admission letter. Stay tuned!

I will be taking my medication from now on

Such a great and detailed diary game! Most of the time, we assumed that all is well when it isn't at times. Embarking on the medical rests and check-up was a wise thing to do instead of thinking it's just malaria which will fade away. With that you knew what you probably didn't know about your health.
Growth they say is change. Seeing a student nurse becoming a full blown nurse in a couple of years is just progress. Also, I guess the compassion of the people around aided your fast recovery that night. So, I hope you'll recover fully soonest🙏

This is so important in ones life, malaria and thyroid is one of the diseases that is disturbing life now a days,it is good we go out for checkup as you do, because we may feel stronger but not knowing that inside us the system or immune system is not strong.
A lot of people are not taking medical tests and check up as priority,it is when ill health condition comes around, they will be rushing to hospital for medical attention immediately, this normally cost over bills.
The body weight also is what we should be doing time to time, this will help us, we're eating different kind of food that is full of protein, fat and oil and starch,so we need to born out the fat most important, because over weight will make you sick also.
I really like your zeal iterms of medical, that is why they said health is wealth, keep on doing the best for health.
I appreciate your health care plans.
