RE: SLC-S25/W2 | Community World Tour: Festivals & Celebrations
Well, I had quite an experience with the EKPO masquerade, though while I was young, since I did not stay in Uyo while growing up, but now because of school I had to live in local areas, where masquerade we're still parading, an unlucky for me, I was flogged by a masquerade with a machete, as I tried to drag with them, but since it was at night, I could not do anything, but just had to leave them 😅. But in recent times, some people wear masquerade to extort from people, which is not supposed to be so.
But still upholding to this cultural heritage shows that even in this modern age, Our culture has no faded, but still remains.
This is the sad reality, people just join and take a mask without knowing what there are to do.
It is said that you shouldn't drag or remove their masks that it has implications. But many of them have been exposed because they crossed the line.
