¿Supersticioso yo?
Hello, amigos; superstitions are ascent beliefs that are said to be the way things happen that are not explainable by nature. With the advanced technology of this era, superstitions do not have any meaning in the modern world. The world now considers superstitions as a way of causing economic setbacks.
Do you believe in superstitions? If yes, on a scale of 1 to 10, how superstitious are you? If not, explain why.
I believe in superstitions because most are true while some are not true. Rating how superstitious I am on a scale of 1 to 10 will be 5/10 because I have a 50, 50% for superstition being true. Superstition is known to be a belief that happens in a particular event in a way that is not explainable by science or reason; they believe that a particular event can bring good luck or bad luck. There is a superstition that says that breaking a mirror brings bad luck. I am not sure of this superstition and do not believe in it; I rather see it as a sign of anger and frustration, not causing bad luck.
There is a superstition which my people, the Igbo tribe, believe that once a cock crows at midnight, it is considered to be an abomination. This is said to be an abomination that causes them to kill the cock without eating meat. For a cock to cry at night means that there is something terrible that is about to happen to someone in the land. Today, superstitions have been controlling the lifestyle of many; I believe that once you agree to a particular superstition, it works for you.
Like in some parts of the Enugu state, a woman is not allowed to cultivate yam. It is believed that if she does, that yam tubber will not yield a good harvest. In the old days, a woman was expected to pay certain items to be cleansed for committing such an abominable act.
Do you believe that if you're superstitious, you can control the fate of destiny?
Being superstitious doesn't grant you access to control the fate of destiny. The fate of destiny can only be controlled by God; even though God has granted us the ability to control the fate of our destiny, superstition will not help control it. Rather, it will be destructive. 77% of the existing superstitions are always negative. The only way we can control the future is by working hard, watching our footsteps, and praying to God always. I regard superstition as a setback towards moving forward and doing the things believed to be impossible.
The majority of the superstitions are not true, which is why it cannot control the faith of destiny by superstitions. How can a superstition that says that if a fowl sees your fallen tooth, it will not grow to help you control the fate of destiny? You can never control the faith of destiny through superstition.
What do you think about this superstition: "Do not marry, do not embark, or leave your home."
The superstition that says"do not marry, do not embark, or leave your home," in my understanding, is considered that we should not lose our focus in life; not getting married is just about staying focused in life to achieve our goals. No embarking is to make sure that we avoid things that can set us on the wrong path, maintaining efficiency and a positive mindset to achieve our goals.
Do you think it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding?
I don't think that it is bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding; I rather consider it improper for the groom to see the bride before the wedding. Back luck can not be caused by an act rather it just happens without explanation, some people are lucky while some are not lucky, sometimes things may go so well for you and you consider it to be luck but it is not so, I see it that God has granted you grace and you need to thank him all the step of the way.
I think that this superstition was created because it doesn't look proper for the bride to be seen before the wedding. It is just a saying that the bride which the groom is about to marry is like joy and a gift from the lord, which is supposed to be a surprise; the bride is to add something unique to the groom's life and comes properly. Seeing the bride before the wedding is not bad luck but inappropriate.
What other superstitions do you know that you could share with us? Do you think they're true?
There are a lot of superstitions, that I know, but I will just be talking about one that says that when someone is going to plant his corn, he should make sure that he eats before planting to enable the corn production to be a success. It is believed in my area that once a person goes to plant a crop on an empty stomach, that crop will have a low yield, leading to poor remuneration. I think that this superstition is true because there was once a time when a planted maize on an empty stomach, and the maize was not produced in large quantity. But the day I ate and planted the crop, it yielded a good harvest; it is also believed that once you eat, you are spiritually talking to the maize to grow healthy and strong.
