Your cherries look amazing! We've had a cherry tree for about 5 years and not a single cherry. Sometimes it looks like we will... so maybe the birds or squirrels are getting there before us!

I take it that your cherry trees aren’t growing near your home, but rather on another plot — in the village or at your summer house?

I think that the birds just get there too quickly - well before they're even starting to look like cherries. It's possible that it's the "wrong" kind of cherry tree although I was careful to buy one that's suitable.
My cherry tree's in my garden - I have 2 apple trees and a pear tree too (never had a pear either). We're very luck in that we live on the edge of the South Downs National Park and in the surrounding area there's lots of wildlife. There's a family of badgers nearby, we'll hear an owl hooting most nights and the bastard squirrels eat all of my fruit. We used to have a little doormouse live outside too but I'm guessing the owl got that one!
