Yes, you're right, I also read about the Russian army being noticed in WWI as well.
Maybe it is just my personal feeling: I don't like sweeping statements like "the Russian", "the German", "the Ukrainian" so much, try to avoid them, because well, every people (and army) consists of individuals.
