Yeah, i've heard that too, that if you are in possesion of the original DVD it's ok. But ChatGPT told me that it's illegal since you must break the copy-protection which makes it illegal in the EU.
UK i don't know, it's not in the EU anymore so perhaps yours could be right ;)
And yes, storing them for a corrupted file makes sense, but then again, you have 100s of DVDs laying around for what? One corrupted file in like 100? Not everyone has a house with lot of space, we have an appartement and there i have a room of about 8m² where i can store all my things and my PC's. And yeah, this room is really a mess since everything lays everwhere, where space is left^^
For music then again, i use my media server most of the time. But i check YT everyday for some new music. If there is a new, dope liveset released i will download it and put it on my server. Same for single tracks which fits in one of my playlists, so i put them inside the playlist on the server. But most of the time i hear the same set's^^
My father has had soooo many CD's, also really cool once like Dreamstation with Trance, music i like. Now he gave me a shoe-carton full with CD's to make him a digital playlist for when he does sports. Unfortunately he didn't kept the Dreamstation CD's, only Vasco Rossi (some popular italian singer) and yeah... Ok, Manu Chao was also under the CD's which is great and also Bob Marley ;) But most of the CD's are things like said italian singer :( So, really not my style xD
He also had 3 boxes full of Cassettes, most of them with rock like Led Zeppelin etc. But also some Trance, Acid, even Hardcore, so i saved them from the recycling^^ Unfortunately i couldn't take more cassettes, since my girlfriend was against it because i never listen to them... But somewhen i really like to listen to cassettes, even in 2025 xD
Ah, I wouldn't trust ChatGPT - I don't know if you've see the quiz I run but I'll often ask ChatGPT what it thinks (sometimes to create questions) and it gets so much wrong! If you have time, it'd be nice if you pop by and see if you can answer a few questions!

My cassettes are long gone! I've still got my vinyl, CDs (rippsed and stored in the loft) and even a few mini-discs. Although more often than not, I'll just ask Alexa to play a random playlist. Genre-wise, it's everything. Vinyl is often old-skool or House and D&B. CDs tend to be more rock oriented and mini-discs probably dance.

Yeah, no, i've meant it like ChatGPT said it's an EU law, so since UK isn't part of the EU anymore chances may be that the laws could be changed there ;)
It's not like the police knocks on your door one day and asks for your digital Films and if you're in possesion of the original DVD^^ I guess you would be good to go, even if you sell your DVD's ;)

I'm from South Tyrol which is officially part of Italy (so we are the german speaking part of Italy, if that tells you more^^). Before WW1 we were part of Austria, then got "gifted" to Italy. So we speak german here ;) But to be honest i'm feeling more like i'm from Germany since i watch german YouTubers and for that i know more about german politics instead of the italian xD I can name nearly every "important" german politician, while on the other hand i don't know who is the current ministry president in Italy^^
I still have my cassettes from my childhood like the stories of Benjamin Blümchen (have fun speaking that out as non german xD) and Bibi Blocksberg (perhaps a bit easier to speak it out^^). I don't know if those tell you something, but in the german speaking regions those stories of the talking elefant in the zoo and the adventures of the little witch were "the shit" back in the days ;)
Vinyl i have too, last week arrived the three vinyls of Hans Zimmer. And there is everything mixed, like i have one from Sunbeam's Outside World (which is my favorite but unfortunately it has a crack :/ Buyed it second hand), RMB, so both are trance, then Eminem (which was a fail since there are too many songs on the single vinyls, so it jumps often or has a loop inside etc.) Twentyone Pilots (same problem as Eminem), and then some very old vinyls like from my grandfather like Folk Music, many "Schlager" (german hit songs) and something russian (probably got from our guests since he had a hotel). I guess the most oldest vinyl i have i buyed myself second hand and it's the original "Over the Rainbow" from the musical "The Wizard of Oz", still without a crack or something, it plays fine ;)
I don't like Alexa (or Google Home etc.) since they listen the whole time^^ But yeah, it's probably very handy ;) Also if i would ask Alexa to play a song it would probably pick something i don't listen to xD Since i got the CD's from my dad to digitize them for him and sure i will store them on my server, so chances are great it would pick something from them^^

That's a bad one since it's not directly german how you learned it but it's south tyrolean dialect :P
Oachkatzl means squirrel and Schwoaf means it's tail ;)
