Greetings everyone. I'm delighted to post here @Hindwhale Community after a long while. I'll like to share my new appointment from NutriLife with you all. I was appointed as the Engagement Lead for this year’s World Breastfeeding Day at General Hospital Calabar. I'm looking forward to sharing our plans, leading the activities, and ensuring we had a fruitful, engaging, and inspiring session as we celebrated and advocate for the significance of breastfeeding.

Celebrating World Breastfeeding Day at General Hospital Calabar

My experience as Engagement Lead for the recent World Breastfeeding Day at General Hospital, Calabar, was both rewarding and motivating. This year's event, themed “Sustaining Breastfeeding” (WEBA 2025), unified mothers, healthcare professionals, and volunteers in a collective initiative to promote effective breastfeeding practices. My responsibilities included preparation, coordination, helping the undergraduate students have a on hands-on experience away from theory aspect in class and facilitating the seamless execution of activities during the celebration.

Preparation began several days prior to the event. The volunteers, including myself, participated in a training session focused on breastfeeding advocacy, communication skills, and teamwork. Tasks were then assigned to ensure smooth operation.

Some handled logistics, others managed publicity, and some were designated for presentations. As an engagement lead I assisted of the logistics team to procure and purchase gifts for the anticipated 80 mothers. We sourced practical and meaningful items from the market, which we packaged into individual gift bags, showcasing appreciation for the mothers’ dedication to breastfeeding.

On the event day, despite heavy rain, the turnout was impressive, reflecting the commitment of the mothers and the dedication of the team. The event commenced with an opening prayer by a nurse, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Volunteer speakers delivered informative presentations on breastfeeding topics, including latching techniques, baby positioning, and the nutritional and emotional perks of breastfeeding. The sessions were interactive, featuring live demonstrations, storytelling, and relatable experiences that kept the mothers engaged.

To foster participation, we provided a platform for questions and answers, inviting mothers to discuss challenges and seek practical advice. The mood was lively and supportive, filled with laughter and connection. At the end of the presentations, the eagerly awaited gift packs were handed out, and the mothers received them with joy and appreciation, their smiles reflecting the success of our efforts.

The celebration concluded with singing, dancing, group photos, and shared snacks among volunteers and participants. As I returned home, I felt a profound sense of fulfillment, knowing that our collective endeavors had made a significant impact. Being part of this initiative reinforced my belief that community-driven health advocacy can inspire lasting change, even in challenging weather conditions.
