As-salamu Alaykum ( 'Peace be upon ')

I’m excited to be part of Week 2 of the Steemit Learning Challenge! The topic “Book to Screen” is truly fascinating. Over the years, I’ve come across several movies adapted from books, and it's always interesting to see how stories evolve when shifting from written pages to the big screen.

Do you think, an idea is better written as a book/novel or acted out as a movie? And which do you prefer?

Yes Yes of course 😊, a classic question - and a very interesting one, too! And this is what I really feel, no, not as a movie reviewer, but just simply as a normal person who likes to read as well as watch a movie.

This I am certain, Yes and I am very certain about this. But not to be misunderstood, I love books, I love movies. However, truth to be told it all depends on creativeness and the quality of its representation in any form. There are stories that you just feel are written down better, and stories that need, or demand, that big screen drama.

I mean, has anyone ever read a book and then went and watched the movie? You even say sometimes, "Wait they completely missed the soul of that character!" Sometimes you go, "Whoa! I had better on that scene than I thought to have had!" See? Each of them is magic.

So yeah, it’s not about which is better. It’s more like asking: Do you like biryani or pizza? Depends on the mood, right? I personally prefer books when I want depth, but movies when I want quick fun. In the end, stories are stories — let them fly in any form!

Watch any movie adapted from a book or novel

Oh yes, absolutely! I’ve watched Devdas — the famous Hindi movie adapted from the classic Bengali novel written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.

It has been remade numerous times yet the one that had Shah Rukh Khan in it completely captured my heart. The music, the dialogs, the emotions of everything was acute and bounding.

So to speak plainly, I admit that I have not read the entire novel (I know, I know), yet I can right now tell that the book has got an emotional pain and poetic beauty that is simply unrivalled.

Nevertheless, this was the main fault of the movie where they depicted the heartbreak and self-destruction of Devdas in an impressive visual manner. I recall saying, "Love must have been extremely painful."

So yeah, Devdas is one of those stories that works beautifully both on paper and screen. Pure emotion, human struggle, and unforgettable love.

From the movie you have watched above, what can you say about the strength and weakness of the movie compared to the book/novel but if you have not read the book then tell us.....

👉 What I found Most Interested in ``Devdas

Frankly speaking, I have not read the entire novel based on Devdas, nevertheless, the film totally dragged me into its emotional world. What grabbed my attention was the suffering of love and loss and it was presented wonderfully in the form of acting performed by Shah Rukh Khan. He talked without speaking.

The sceneries between Devdas and Paro were full of silent sentiments, unkept vows and broken hearts. And then when Chandramukhi comes in,--ah me! The very fact that she respected Devdas despite him being maimed brought a new dimension of beauty.

👉 Strength of the Movie

The visuals, the grand sets and the soulful music all made it seem real. You could read almost the pain and almost taste the tragedy. It made you submerse in all feelings, and it did not hurry: it is so uncommon in contemporary movies.

The dialogues were also poetic and almost musical. Each thing had its value. That is something which I really like.

🕳️ The Weakness (In comparison with a Book)

When considering how philosophically a novel could get, getting down to in depth thinking, background characters and prolonged character progression, the movie does seem somewhat lacking in such depth. In a book, one can pause and feel but in a movie, time is fast.

It was also not a gradual goodbye but more of a shock, perhaps the book dedicates more room to such an emotional breakdown.

📖 If I Wrote a Book on the Movie...

If I had to write a book version of Devdas, I’d focus deeply on his inner battle — the way love turns into guilt, how he struggles with pride, and how he drowns in his own choices.

I’d write his letters to Paro that were never sent. I’d let the reader walk through his lonely nights, hear his thoughts echo in silence, and feel the weight of the bottle in his shaking hand. That’s where the real heartbreak lives — in the silence between the scenes.

I am inviting my friends @ngoenyi @sohanurrahman and @joslud to participate in this challenge.
