Greetings friends! How are you? I believe you are all fine as I am. I want to take this brief moment to thank @okere-blessing for organising this contest titled "Realities of Godfatherism, My thoughts". This topic is timely. Godfatherism has negatively affected us deeply in Nigeria and is still affecting us. I hope this article will open our eyes to see certain realities of godfatherism.

What is Godfatherism?
Godfatherism refers to a structure or a practice where powerful and rich individual popularly known as "godfather" exercise their influence, control, and use their wealth to manipulate processes to suit their interest or sentiment. In Nigeria, godfatherism is popularly seen in the political system of the country, and the same politicians are now extending their influence to the religious institution, traditional system, where they endorse who to become a king and kingmakers. They also influence our educational sector, judiciary and even the military.

The danger associated with godfatherism
The dangers associated with godfatherism include:

• Corruption: Godfathers can force their influence to have access to our resources and other opportunities.
• Political crises which has to do with electoral malpractice and serious political rivalries among parties and individuals.
• Poor representation: The leaders will rule to satisfy the godfather rather than the general society.
• Undermining the rule of law: The God fathers will go against the law and nothing will be done because they also control the judiciary.

Have you faced Godfatherism before? Share your experiences with us.

In the year 2007, I applied for police inspector cadet, for which I was shortlisted. So, I scaled through the state and zonal level screening and was shortlisted for the final screening at the headquarters Zone 4 in Abuja. After the screening at the headquarters, the result never came out until 2009 (That is two years later). To my greatest surprise, almost all the 10 candidates who succeeded in my state did not pass through the state level, zonal level and even the last screening in the headquarters. Meaning that someone somewhere brought their candidate and that overrides any other list they have before. I missed the opportunity as a result of that.

What do you think of people who are struggling from scratch without Godfathers ?

For such people, I do cherish their hard work, commitment and resilience. I also see the Almighty God as their influence and the one working behind the scenes for their success in life. If I am with people like this, I encourage them to keep pushing and praying to God for a breakthrough. I let them know that change is permanent in life. They have what it takes to become what they want to be. One day, their struggles will pave the way for them to be great.

From the story above, give a brief summary of what you think will become of Cabin Company.

The inexperience, incompetence and poor managerial skills of the head of the Cabin Company may lead him to adopt wrong and unfair policies, harass his employees, and have excessive monitoring and control over his employees which will harm both the employees and the company in the following areas:

• Lower productivity which will certainly affect the profit of the company
• Negative impact on the reputation of the company
• Demoralisation and decrease in job satisfaction.
• Poor work environment.
• Poor performance in all sectors.
