Side hustles should be on the side

Introduction

I am someone who always tries to find an extra few dollars here and there. During my trials, I have come to realize that many people looking for side hustles, have a general misconception. They usually have the belief that they will hustle profitably for a few months, and they will be able to quit their day job.

A side hustle should be on the side of active income

Think about it, the name of the venture says it all; "side hustle". The whole idea of a side hustle is based on the fact that it's an extra source of income, right? It's only supposed to be on the side, hence you should have active income that at least sustains you. This side thing for now is just there to ensure that you have a few extra bucks at the end of the month.

Let it and you with bills only when it can

Usually side hustles will initially give you much less income than your main hustle. And, when the side hustle starts to pay consistently, it becomes an important source of your income. It can aid with bills and investments. However, many people get carried away with this improved income.

Neglecting active income source

Some people tend to start neglecting their main source of income as soon as they taste a few dollars in side in come. They forget that the side hustle cannot sustain them without the main. By combining the main hustle and the side hustle, they can actually do better financially. However, at this moment, they start thinking about leaving their current job to focus on the side hustle. And many times, people get a rude awakening when they find out that the side hustle alone cannot sustain them as their sole source of income. By then, it might be too late, as many would have already burnt all bridges to start a new exciting and profitable journey.

Initially value your main job and gradually shift as the side hustle becomes profitable

I would not recommend anyone to focus on their side hustle more than their main hustle. I also would not recommend anyone to leave their job unless their hustle makes at least twice their salary. In addition to this, make sure you have a solid base of capital to sustain you for a few months or even years in case things go sideways.

While some people, are lucky to have side hustles that explode as soon as they leave their job. Many more find themselves in tough and tight spots with no room to maneuver when things go sideways.

In conclusion

If you are made for side hustling and if you have the time and energy, then go for it . Just do not neglect the main hustle because you got a few extra bucks. However, it's awesome to always earn a few extra bucks. To be honest, I enjoy compounding the few dollars from many different side hustles. If you add them up, you start seeing the difference.
