Hello friends of steem4nigeria, hope you are having a lovely day wherever you are. My neighborhood watch is about the visit of the director general to the Nysc orientation camp Tai Local Government Area in Rivers state, Nigeria.
The Nysc is a federal scheme which was instituted by the Government on 22nd May 1973 after the civil war to reconstruct, rehabilitate and reconcile the Nigerian states.
The aim of the Nysc scheme is mostly to foster unity and patriotism. There are 37 orientation camps in Nigeria, and there are 3 batches every year to register young Nigerians from Tertiary institutions.

The Nysc scheme is headed by a Director general at national level and then by state coordinators at state level. The Director General has been going on visits to each of the 37 camps and paid a visit yesterday to the Rivers' camp.

Everyone was prepared and ready to host him. Commanders were in orderliness, a special parade squad was also in place to receive him. The band too was waiting for his arrival by 12pm. I was a part of the band.

Around 12pm, we received him and then the band played the 'Arrival fun fair' for him before playing the General's salute. It was wonderful and amazing playing these drum lines to welcome him. There was a parade in his honour also. The event started with the state coordinator welcoming him and then other dignitaries had a speech also before the Director General gave his speech. He had a long lecture with us. He looked smart and was quite full of humour. He celebrated the birthday of a corp member too with a cake.

He also gave out cash prizes to the cultural display group, the commander, the band group and to all corp members, he gave food items to aid their feeding. It was a wonderful time with him as he took pictures also with us. The event ended with the Nysc Anthem and everyone sang out with delight as the band orchestrated the anthem.

He was ushered out with other dignitaries and then we all went back to our hostels. It was a lovely time with him. We were all grateful for the gifts and the visitation.

Wow, what a rich and exciting experience! Your account really brought the day to life, I could almost hear the drums and feel the energy of the parade. It’s beautiful to see how much effort and preparation went into welcoming the Director General. I especially loved the part about him celebrating a corps member's birthday and giving out food and prizes, such gestures go a long way in boosting morale.

Being part of the band must have been such a proud moment for you. Your role in creating that atmosphere of celebration and unity is truly commendable. Thank you for sharing this vibrant glimpse into the NYSC spirit, it reminded me of the purpose behind the scheme: unity, service, and nation-building. Well done! 👏

Thanks very much for your reply to my content and kind words too.
