From Poverty to Purpose: My Journey of Hope and Grace
Hello wonderful Steemians, it’s always a joy to be here sharing a piece of my life and heart with this amazing community. I deeply appreciate the love, encouragement, and the platform this space provides for us to freely express ourselves. Writing here reminds me that every story matters, no matter how small.
Growing up in a very poor family was a threat to my wellbeing: physically, mentally, and spiritually. Life in the village was tough; people didn’t know what tomorrow held. We only managed to eat, and life just went on with no future and no hope for a better tomorrow. As a child, I thought the whole world revolved around my little village.
My primary education was so poor that I could neither spell nor pronounce simple words. Reading and writing felt impossible. I was often called the dullest student in class, and at home, there was no one to guide me. My parents, being farmers, had no time for us, and this affected our academics greatly.
Yet, deep inside me, something kept pushing me to learn. I knew I was brilliant, but my environment made me appear otherwise. One painful incident changed me forever. During an exam, I asked a classmate for an answer. Earlier, I had given her mine, but instead of helping, she embarrassed and humiliated me in front of others. That pain ignited a fire within me. It gave birth to my passion and love for education.
When I got into the university, survival was extremely difficult. Many times, I wanted to quit, but God showed me mercy and strength. I tried everything legally possible to survive, but it was not enough. Just when I was about to give up, God intervened.
I searched for a job to support myself, but instead of just a job, God gave me a home. A safe hand found me and cared for me as though I were her own blood. That love restored my hope and gave me peace.
As a child, I used to wave at airplanes flying over my village. I heard stories about toilets inside planes, and I would laugh, never imagining I’d ever step into one. But years later, that dream became real. For the first time in history, my mum paid for my flight along with her family. None of my relatives had ever entered a plane before. It was a moment of joy and gratitude I will never forget.
Today, I share this not to brag, but to testify of God’s faithfulness. From being called the dullest girl, from almost giving up on education, from poverty and hopelessness, God lifted me into safety, love, and a promising future.
background does not define your future. If He did it for me, He can do it for you.
Moral lesson
Life will always throw challenges at us, but our determination and God’s grace can rewrite our stories. Never allow where you come from to limit where you are going.
What about you? What challenge have you overcome that once seemed impossible? I’d love to hear your story in the comments.
