Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 105: 🌿Healthy Habit 🌿

One healthy habit I practice regularly is exercise. I do a lot of it—going to the gym, lifting weights, and sometimes jogging. I’ve learned from different sources, even scientists, that regular exercise can make you healthier both inside and out. At first, it sounded like a normal thing everyone says, but now I understand it better because I’ve seen the effect on my own body and mind. It’s not just about building muscle or losing weight; it also helps you mentally and emotionally.

WHEN I STARTED MY EXERCISE HABIT

I started this habit when I was very young.
Every morning, I make sure to do something physical—even if it’s just a jog or some home workout.

THE REASON I STARTED THIS HABIT

I’ve always loved exercise. I was introduced to it through my elder brothers. They used to take me along when going to the gym, and watching them lift weights and challenge themselves made me fall in love with it.

Over time, it became something I couldn’t go without. I saw it more like fun, not just a fitness routine. Exercise has improved me in many ways. Physically, it helped me go from being a fat person to being fit. I used to be someone that couldn’t lift even small weights or jog short distances without breathing heavily.

Now, people who see me say, “Wow, you’ve changed!” That motivates me more. Mentally, it has made me stronger too. When I’m overwhelmed or something is bothering me, I go to the gym, and after exercising, I feel lighter in my mind, like the stress just melts away. Personally, I’ve discovered self-control and built confidence through reliable effort. It has enabled me to trust in myself.

MY CHALLENGES WHEN PRACTISING THIS HABIT

Honestly, the journey hasn’t been easy.
I encountered many obstacles when I first started. Like I said earlier, I wasn’t muscular. Lifting weights felt like a punishment. Just pulling a little weight used to get me so tired. I felt lazy sometimes and even thought of giving up. But I reminded myself that if I stop now, I’ll never see any change. So I kept pushing forward.

Now, I can lift 20 kg weights twenty times a day and jog around a football field five times without even feeling tired. That growth didn’t happen overnight—it came through consistency and determination.

MY ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO DEVELOP THIS HABIT

If anyone wants to start this habit, I’ll tell you the truth—it’s hard at the beginning. But the result is sweet. Have a goal and be determined.Set a time for yourself and stay committed to it. Don’t wait for motivation to come; just start. Even if it’s hard or your body discomfort at first, don’t quit and I promised, you won't regret making such a decision.

OVERALL

Honestly, choosing to make exercise a regular part of my life has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. It’s not about looking perfect or having six-packs—it’s about building discipline and improving your life in every area. And now, I can proudly say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If I can do it, anybody can.

Exercising really needs consistency and the initial body discomfort could actually discourage anyone whose mind isn't made up for the positive outcomes.
