SLC-S25/W4-Movie Snapshots | Time Travel and Twist (Day of Destiny)
There’s a haunting truth about the past: no matter how much we revisit it in our minds, replay the events, or wish for a different outcome, we can never change it. The future, however, holds endless possibilities if we dare to face it. That truth echoed in my heart as I watched the Nigerian movie Day of Destiny (DOD), a film that took me on an emotional, thought-provoking journey of time travel, choices, and the explosive consequences of trying to alter fate.
🎬 About the Movie:
- Title: Day of Destiny (DOD)
- Country: Nigeria
- Directors: Akay Mason and Abosi Ogba
- Genre: Sci-Fi, Family Drama, Fantasy
Day of Destiny is a time travel drama about two teenage brothers, Chidi and Rotimi, who discover a supernatural portal that allows them to travel back to the year 2000. Their goal? To change the fate of their struggling family by correcting a decision made by their father 20 years ago. But what they find is far more than what they bargained for.

🕰️ A Complex and Thought-Provoking Plot:
At first glance, the boys’ mission seems justified. Their family is on the verge of losing everything, their father is jobless, their mother is exhausted, and the younger brother, Chidi, feels the pressure to rescue them all. But the moment they step into the past, reality starts to blur.
What begins as a noble plan soon spirals into unintended chaos. The father they once knew is no longer a simple man with good intentions but a driven corporate climber whose decisions now come with a price. Rotimi becomes successful but at the cost of his values. Chidi is lost in the noise of a reality they created but cannot control.
The twist comes when they realise the alternate future is far worse than their original life. Their family has changed, not in the way they imagined. The wealth they hoped for has come but with tension, broken relationships, and a hollowness that can't be repaired.
💡 Lessons & Reflections:
The movie left me with one overwhelming message:
“Dwelling on the past can rob us of the peace we deserve in the present. We cannot edit what has already been written, but we can choose how our next chapter is told.”
This is where DOD stands out. It’s not just a time-travel flick; it’s a mirror, reminding us that the past has its place, but the future is ours to design.
Rotimi and Chidi’s emotional transformation shows how painful moments can become purpose if we learn from them instead of trying to erase them.

🌺 Final Thoughts:
"Day of Destiny" is a rare Nigerian film that successfully blends science fiction with deep, human storytelling. The creativity of using time travel to push a family narrative forward is brilliant. The twist – that changing the past might not save you but break you – is unforgettable.
In a world where many of us are tempted to fix what is already gone, DOD encourages us to face forward, make peace with yesterday, and walk boldly into tomorrow.

🌐 Why You Should Watch It:
- It’s one of the few Nigerian films that dares to explore time travel.
- It teaches about the butterfly effect and the cost of altered decisions.
- It centres on family, identity, and what truly makes life meaningful.
