Hey Steem4Nigeria fam šŸ‘‹šŸ½
It’s your boy checking in with a football gist —about Chelsea’s wild journey to winning the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. I still can’t believe it, and honestly, I didn’t see it coming. But let’s talk about how these guys pulled it off, because e shock me too.

The Club World Cup Vibes

So this year’s Club World Cup was a big one — 32 teams, held in the US, top clubs from every continent. It felt like a mini-World Cup for clubs. Everyone had their money on PSG or maybe City. Chelsea? Most of us no rate them like that.

Group Stage: Hot and Cold

Chelsea started off calm with a 2–0 win against LAFC, we thought a walk over, a simple victory against a small club— fresh signing Liam Delap even showed some spark.

But next game, wahala. They lost 3–1 to Flamengo, and Nicolas Jackson collected a red card, in less than 10min of coming on. Everything looked off — they couldn’t connect passes, midfield was sleeping, defense shaky.

Their final group match was against EspĆ©rance de Tunis and they came back strong with a 3–0 win. That win gave them the push to move into the knockout stage. At this point, nobody still thought they’d go far.

Knockout Stage

  • Round of 16 vs Benfica: Delay due to rain. Game lasted almost 4 hours. Chelsea still pushed through with a solid 4–1 win — but Benfica no gree easy.
  • Quarter-final vs Palmeiras: Scrappy match. Chelsea got an own goal that bailed them out 2–1. You could tell the pressure was real.
  • Semi-final vs Fluminense: This was where JoĆ£o Pedro stepped up. Scored twice and showed why they paid all that money for him.

Honestly, those games weren’t smooth. They struggled sometimes, but they kept finding ways to win. That’s where I started thinking, ā€œWait oh… these guys dey serious.ā€

The Final: Chelsea vs PSG

All eyes were on PSG. Even me, I was like ā€œPSG go run them street.ā€ With the hype, Dembele, Hakimi, and their form — everybody expected Chelsea to collect.

But Chelsea came with fire. From the first whistle, they pressed PSG so hard it was like they were on Red Bull 😭.

  • Palmer opened scoring, then created another for JoĆ£o Pedro.
  • That second goal? Beautiful one-two play — cut through PSG’s defense like knife through butter.
  • Before half-time, it was 3–0. PSG fans just dey look like ā€œna wetin be this?ā€

Chelsea’s midfield locked PSG down. Enzo FernĆ”ndez and Caicedo didn’t let them breathe. PSG couldn’t even find rhythm, and by second half, you could tell their head don burst.

Even worse, JoĆ£o Neves got a red card late in the game, and Luis Enrique started vexing. It was Chelsea’s night.

What Made the Difference?

  • Maresca’s gameplan: Personally I think that man studied PSG’s playbook. He literally shut down their passing lanes, exposed their defense and disrupted their midfield from start to finish.
  • New boys showed up: JoĆ£o Pedro, Delap, and young stars like EstĆŖvĆ£o and Gittens added fresh energy. Not just squad fillers — they contributed big time.
  • Palmer was šŸ”„: Best player of the tournament. Period.

The Celebration

  • Chelsea wins 3–0 and lifts the Club World Cup trophy
  • Cole Palmer bags the Golden Ball — man deserves it
  • Trump (yes, that Trump šŸ˜‚) presented the trophy and still got booed
  • Chelsea now gets to rock the FIFA World Champions badge
  • And they bagged over $153 million in prize money. Talk about payday šŸ˜…

Let’s be honest: nobody thought Chelsea would win this. They didn’t start well, they struggled, but they built momentum, trusted their coach, and took their chances when it mattered most.

They didn’t just win, they earned it.

And me? I’m a Man United fan 😤
As usual, I didn’t support Chelsea one bit from the start. But credit where it’s due — they balled out when it mattered.

So tell me fam,
šŸ”¹ Were you also shocked by Chelsea’s win?
šŸ”¹ Who impressed you the most in the tournament?
šŸ”¹ What does this mean for PSG going forward?
