SLC-S25/W2-Movie Snapshots|Book to Screen (The Purple Hibiscus)
Welcome to my blog! Today I am participating in the second week of this challenge and I am glad to share the book to screen movie that I watch.
The author of this novel is Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and the book was published back then in 2003.
I came in contact with this book when I was in my junior secondary school and this was one of the recommendation book for us to read in my JSS 2. It was a new book then we started reading it just two years after it was published.
Today I am glad to write about from book to screen and also talk about the director's weaknesses in the movie.
Do you think, an idea is better written as a book/novel or acted out as a movie? And which do you prefer?
At first I usually think an idea is better in a movie than in a book. The reason for that thought was that many people including me enjoyed watching movies to reading novels especially those lengthy novels. It doesn't takes me much to follow a series of a movie but talking about reading a lengthy novel is a no no for me except a very interesting and insightful novel that is mostly talked about.
But after watching this movie when compared to the book that the movie is extracted from. I am of the opinion that an idea is better written that acted.
My reason for saying so is that:
The actors and actresses do not act exactly what is written in the book.
Sometimes they do not have the people that will act exactly what was in the authors' mind when writing the novel.
Another reason is that they sometimes mixed up some things, add and take away some things in other to fit in with their acting.
Some actions are not acted the way it was written in the novel.
The book purple hibiscus gave more details about the characters unlike the movie which is acted on their fixed runtime.
The novel allows me to use my imagination and think more deeply about the story, the characters emotions and feelings rather than just depending on the acted stories.
In the novel the purple hibiscus, the father is both loving and sometimes he is violence but the movie omitted the violence part completely.
So anyone who do not read the novel will believe completely what is in the movie.
I prefer to read the book than watching the book to screen.
Watch any movie adapted from a book or novel
This is the YouTube link to the movie.
Though their cover image is not what I expected it to be.
The people in the cover image are not the characters in the movie.
Please watch and enjoy the movie.
Nina's mom was advised by her friend to train her daughter how to do house chores but she neglected it.
From the movie you have watched above, what can you say about the strength and weakness of the movie compared to the book/novel but if you have not read the book then tell
The weaknesses
From the movie that I have just watched, there are a lot of adjustment in the movie.
The movie do not include the domestic violence aspect as I mentioned earlier and this ommition to me has altered the overall impact of the book.
The duration of the movie I think is shorter if it was to be compared with what is written in the novel.
That is because they have not acted the novel's details characters.
Nina's husband returning her to her parents because she couldn't cook nor do house chores
The strength
The strength of the movie is that it brought the story to life with clear visuals and made the story more enjoyable apart from the fact that some aspects of the story is missing.
The way Nina's emotions was acted and well captured in the movie showing how shameful she felt not knowing how to cook or do house chores was amazing.
The movie put life into the story. I really commend them for that.
The movie's lightening, mood and atmosphere was really interesting and enhanced the story.
Nina cooking for her husband after returning from her parent's house where the husband told her to go back and learn.
The director of the movie, the purple hibiscus is Nnegest Likkẹ̄. The release of this movie in 2014 though filmed in 2008 brought the Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie novel to screen making it possible for many people to watch and learn.
I am inviting @manuelhooks, @okere-blessing and @josepha to participate in this challenge.

You have participated in a very nice competition. And you have tried to answer every question asked in this competition very skillfully and here was a question. Today I am happy to write from book to screen and talk about the weaknesses of the director in the film. This is a very nice one in which you have mentioned some very nice things that I liked reading because we like reading movies or novels and some important things in the movies that we remember that always match our real life. Anyway, I am very happy to read your post. May you be very well and healthy. Best wishes to you for participating in such a nice competition.
Thank you so much dear friend, I enjoyed reading that novel back then in my secondary school days and was eager to write about it when I saw this challenge. I enjoyed reading and watching of movies.
Thank you for participating in this challenge of season 25.
The author of the book you have explained is one of a good writer from Nigeria. I was expecting to see some depth in your write up especially on the strength and weakness. But over all you did well. I was also expecting to see a screenshot of the book or novel.
Thank you so much for the verification
@udyliciouz Great post I love how you compared the book and movie. You made good points books show more emotion and detail. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Purple Hibiscus. Well done
Thank you so much. Not all ideas can be acted the same way it was written and as such I don't expect to see exactly the same thing in movies. Though movies make it more interesting to relax and watch without stressing ourselves.
