Nigeria is a land that nature has blessed with fertile soils and numerous natural resources, but it is so sad that we still export agricultural produce from other countries.

One truth remains unwavering: agriculture is life. Long before skyscrapers touched the sky and technology became our second nature, agriculture was humanity’s first lifeline. It is more than just planting crops or raising livestock, it is a deliberate, strategic, and vital practice that ensures survival, sustenance, and socio-economic stability. With our rich and fertile land, Nigeria should be one of the leading agriculture exporters in Africa, why are we still suffering,? The answer returned back to our government and the youth, who sees politics, oil and white collar jobs and the only means of establishment and self employment in the country.

Agriculture as the Foundation of Survival

It is very true that agriculture is a means of survival. It provides food, which is the most basic human necessity. Without a stable source of food, communities face hunger, malnutrition, and eventual collapse. Historically, civilizations that mastered farming thrived, while those that depended solely on hunting and gathering were often vulnerable to environmental changes.

Farming ensures a steady supply of staple foods, grains, vegetables, fruits, and proteins. Beyond feeding the body, agriculture contributes to health, supporting balanced diets and preventing famine. In rural areas, the backyard garden or small-scale farm often acts as a lifesaver, especially when market prices soar or disasters disrupt supply chains.

Conclusion: Agriculture as the Lifeblood of Humanity

This is a call to all the Nigerians, Whether it’s a family tending to a vegetable garden, a community cultivating rice fields, or nations investing in food security, agriculture remains the backbone of survival. The earlier we realized this the better for the country and its citizens at large.

This is a call also to all the Nigerians youths, be it a graduate or undergraduate, instead of us folding our arms and roaming around the street with files looking for a white Collar job, we can dig our hands into the rich natural fertile soils an make Nigeria a blessing to other nations.
