Three-Step Problem-Solving FrameworkSolving any problem—whether it's a math puzzle, a work challenge, or a life dilemma—can be broken down into a simple, repeatable process. This approach draws from classic methods like Polya's problem-solving strategy but streamlined to just three core steps.

Here's how: Define the Problem Clearly
Ask: What exactly is the issue? Gather facts, identify constraints, and rephrase it in your own words. Avoid jumping to solutions yet—clarity prevents solving the wrong thing.

Example: If you're late on a project, don't just think "I'm behind"; specify "I need to deliver a report by Friday with 20% less time due to unexpected bugs."

Brainstorm and Plan Solutions

Generate options without judgment: List 3–5 ideas, weigh pros/cons, and pick the best one. Use tools like mind maps or pros/cons tables if it helps. Focus on feasibility.
Example: For the report, options might include prioritising key sections, delegating tasks, or extending hours—then choose based on your energy and resources.

Execute, Test, and Iterate

Act on your plan, then evaluate: Did it work? Measure results and tweak as needed. Reflection turns one-time fixes into habits.
Example: Finish the report draft, review for errors, get feedback, and adjust before submission. If it still misses the deadline next time, revisit step 1.

This method keeps things actionable and efficient. Adapt it to the problem's scale—quick fixes might take minutes, while complex ones may take weeks.

Be persistent
