It's a bit sad to see this, especially on a birthday.
You don't have to be so extreme with your thinking. It may be that they have not had time to make the purchases that are placed in the refrigerator.
Or many other setbacks that have not allowed time for shopping.
So, don't be sad. Maybe the refrigerator will be full today, being an optimist.
The fridge wasn't loaded but next day shopping was done by me, and eating out at a restaurant.
No need to feel sad indeed, although I understand why @lupega said it.
The fridge looks like this most of the time the entirebyear. Most food doesn't need a fridge and we don't eat much. .

Let's see: tea, coffee don't need a fridge. There's bread and there us (not in the fridge) chocolate spread, peanut butter and chocolate sprinkles (and there is real butter). Since no one has breakfast...
Thatvday we spent home it kept raining so we skipped visiting the capital city. I have no idea what we ate and therevwas no cake but cheese with candles just like requested. 🍀♥️
