Hello Steemians,

Today I want to share a special volunteering experience at Cap Zbib, Tunisia.
It was a day dedicated to protecting the environment and marine life through a large-scale beach and seabed cleanup, combined with the rescue and release of a sea turtle named Salouha.

A Collective Effort

This event gathered local organizations, environmental activists, students, and citizens who all worked together for one mission: a cleaner, healthier coastline.

More than 300 participants joined forces and the results were impressive:

  • 800 kg of recyclable waste
  • 10 tons of non-recyclable waste
  • 3 tons of glass bottles

The seabed was also cleaned by divers from Mouja Cap Zebib, ensuring that waste hidden underwater was removed.

Raising Awareness

Environmental action is not only about cleaning, but also about educating and raising awareness.
Participants learned more about the impact of plastic and glass on marine ecosystems, and how small actions can lead to big changes when done together.

Salouha the Sea Turtle

One of the most emotional moments of the day was the release of Salouha, a rescued sea turtle.
She had been treated at the Marine Turtle Rescue Center of the Faculty of Science of Sfax. Before being released, she was identified with a metal tag number to follow her journey in the wild.

Salouha identified with her metal tag before release.

From the pool where she was cared for, to the car that carried her to the beach, and finally to the waves where she swam free every step was documented. Watching Salouha return to the sea was a moving reminder of why we protect nature.

Closing

This day at Cap Zbib proved how volunteering can inspire real change. With hundreds of hands working together, tons of waste were removed, awareness was raised, and a sea turtle swam free again.

Protecting the sea is protecting life itself. Let’s keep caring for our beaches, our waters, and the creatures that depend on them.
