I find it difficult to look at what I consider ugly too and would say it.
Today some old woman, with a very fat ugly dog growling at me, nearly attacking me in my own garden, came along to visit the neighbour. The owner said the dog was insecure, nervous and complimented it gor it's behaviour.

If that uhly dog is insecure it shouldn't walk around unleashed.
Ugly is ugly and I don't see any point in telling the owner it is a great dog. No way.

It can be that ugly dogs have a great character but I still don't want it and refuse to say it's a beauty. To me it's the same with chikdren (babies included).

Btw, I find it very childish if people downvote b/c of not sharing the same opinion.
