Let's celebrate children

Hi steemit family

Let's talk about our children

Let's Celebrate the Children

In this life, if there's one group we should never get tired of celebrating, it is the children. Those small humans running around with wide eyes and wild dreams, the ones who fill our homes with noise, drama, laughter, and pure love. Children are not just little people they are blessings from above. They are walking answers to prayers, proof that life still has sweetness left in it.

Here in Nigeria, especially in a calm and beautiful place like Uyo where I live, children are more than just part of the family. They are the pride of the family. They are joy. A child can be the glue that holds a home together, the reason a man keeps working hard, or the spark that reminds a tired mother that love is still alive.

A Moment to Remember

I still remember one sunny afternoon in Uyo, after the rain had just fallen and the streets smelled of wet sand and mango trees. I was walking back home when I saw a group of children playing under a big almond tree. They were using empty milk cans as cooking pots, sand as rice, and broken sticks as spoons. One small girl shouted, “Mama Emma, your food is ready oh!” and all of them burst into laughter. That moment held something so pure. No smartphones, no toys from Shoprite just imagination and friendship. Honestly, it melted my heart.

That’s the thing about children: they don’t need much to be happy. They find joy in little things. And if you ever sit with them and just watch, you’ll realize how much adults have lost in the name of “growing up.”

The Worth of a Child

Some people measure wealth by how many plots of land they own or how fat their bank account is. But here’s the truth: one healthy, happy, well-trained child is worth more than a thousand gold bars. A child can carry your name to places your feet will never touch. A child can speak one word that rewrites your entire story. Look at many great people today someone raised them. Someone taught them. Someone believed in them.

So, celebrating children is not just about buying them clothes or throwing parties. It’s about valuing their presence. It’s about listening to them, guiding them, and most importantly, loving them.

Children Are Not Just for PlayThey Carry Grace

In our culture, when a child is born, people say things like “this child has brought light” or “since this baby entered, things have changed.” It’s not just sweet talk it’s real. Children come with grace. Their arrival can open doors. Their names can change destinies. Even when they’re still crawling, they are already shifting things in the spirit.

I know a family who tried to have kids for years. The moment their daughter came, jobs started rolling in, peace returned to their marriage, and they even moved to a better house. The child became a source of new beginnings. That's why in Ibibio, we say “Nnyin ke ima ke edidem”children are the crown of love.

Let’s Not Forget the Street Children

While we’re clapping and dancing, let’s pause a little for the children who aren’t so lucky. The ones selling groundnuts under the sun when they should be in school. The ones begging at junctions with tired eyes and dusty feet. They are also children. They also deserve love.

If we’re serious about celebrating children, we must also fight for the ones who don’t have a voice. We must speak up, give, teach, volunteer, and build systems that allow all children not just the rich ones to dream and thrive.

Children and the Gift of Laughter

A child’s laughter is medicine. Sometimes, after a long stressful day, my little cousin runs to me, hugs me tight, and says, “Sister, I missed you like jollof rice!” It cracks me up every time. Their joy is contagious. Their love is unfiltered. Even when they annoy you, it’s hard to stay mad for too long.

There’s this boy at our church David. Always smiling, always dancing. One Sunday during praise and worship, he jumped on the pulpit and started copying the choir leader. Everyone wanted to scold him, but the way he danced made the whole church burst into laughter. That single act lifted our mood more than the whole sermon. That’s the power children carry. They remind us to loosen up and live a little.

To Every Parent, Teacher, and Caregiver

Let’s take a minute to appreciate those raising the next generation. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, nanny, uncle, or aunty, you are doing sacred work. It’s not easy. It takes patience, wisdom, and love that keeps forgiving. But keep going. Your reward is coming not just in heaven, but here on earth too.

That stubborn child might become the one who builds your house tomorrow. That quiet little girl may grow into a woman who changes the world. Don’t give up on them. Keep planting. Keep watering. Harvest is sure.

Conclusion: More Than Just Celebration

Celebrating children is not just about Children’s Day or birthday parties with bouncy castles. It’s a lifestyle. A decision to see them as treasures, to treat them with kindness, to discipline them with love, and to guide them with purpose.

Let’s raise a generation that knows they are valued not just for what they’ll become in the future, but for who they are now. Let’s build schools that teach both books and morals. Let’s create homes where children feel safe to cry, laugh, ask, and dream.

In Uyo, in Nigeria, in Africa, and across the world let’s celebrate the children.

Because in their hands lies tomorrow. In their hearts, lies the future. And in their smiles, lies the light that this world desperately needs.
