Guard your life

The only lifeguard I ever saw was abroad, years ago as we travelled to the African continent. It was interesting since the man was never around if needed. He was present during those windy days, no soul felt like entering the sea anyway unless it was to escape from all the harassments.
Isn't it strange how we would rather drown than stay on shore trying to get rid of a single guy not willing to let go of you no matter how many hours you tried to explain that you are in a relationship>
I wondered what goes into the head of those types of men; it can't be much.It wasn't me but my mom who ended an over 4 hours conversation (to deaf ears) by simply showing up.... she looked at me and that weird guy.

She stretched out her arm and grabbed me by my shirt and pulled me inside the gate and closed it.
That was it, and till today we still laugh but I admit I would have never dared to walk out. I was raised to believe that I should give a reason, explain myself, and not simply leave.

No way, said mom, he's too stupid to understand. Besides, you look like the goose with the golden egg in that guy's eyes.

I admit she was right, it was hard to set foot outside without being followed by all sorts of guys who truly believe they are the biggest catch. We still wonder by whom they are raised. What makes them think they are the ones we are willing to dump the partner for? They are such a great catch! Is this typical for men or do women do the same? Are we that confident or do we pretend in the hope to be seen like that useless lifeguard shouting from the beach: don't you see the red flag? It means it's not allowed to swim.
