It's a great reminder, Christiane.

Following the money can be stifling for me; otherwise, I would likely be earning much more by now. I could never do something like Fiverr, where writing is based on the monetary reward. I could probably write, but it would be robotic and lifeless.

That's another site? They asked for login. I guess it's the basic thing where a post with most interactions gets to the top, no matter the content

That's another site?

Yes and no. It is (almost) the same code as Steemit. The page accesses my database. There I have changed the calculation of the trending score a little (and I'm still working on it).
You only need to log in if you want to vote or write.

Everything else will be the same? Just the trending part is calculated differently?

Almost yes! The header is different and I use my own RPC node for requesting data. Therefore you could use it if steemit.com is down.

Right. Now that you mentioned Steem is down, I'm wondering: was that just my connection acting up, or does Steem frequently take forever to load, or even fail to load at all?

There were difficulties on the servers. In the meantime there was an update and it should work better again... until the next problem. That's why it's always good to know alternatives. :-)

I've just bookmarked the site you shared. Just in case
