Pencil drawing tutorial - Tiger drawing
Greetings and warmest welcome to my blog. My name is @emmaboy23, and today I decided to share my creativity with you all. Drawing is not just about putting lines on paper; it is about capturing life, expression, and the essence of a subject. Whenever I pick up my pencil, I feel like I am creating something that goes beyond lines and shading—it becomes a story frozen in stillness. For this drawing, I chose one of the most majestic animals of the wild: the tiger. Its bold stripes, piercing eyes, and commanding walk inspired me to bring it to life with nothing more than patience, creativity, and a pencil. Here's how I created this piece.
Drawing items
• A4 paper
• HB pencil
• 2B pencil
• charcoal pencil
• eraser
• sharpener
• black pen.
Drawing process
Step 1
I started lightly with a pencil, sketching the tiger’s head. At this stage, I kept my strokes very soft so I could easily erase and adjust, and then I added details to it.
Step 2
Next, I then drew the body of the carefully walking tiger. First of all, I drew the two front legs.
Step 3
A tiger’s stripes are like its fingerprint—unique and essential. I started adding them across the body, paying attention to their natural flow and direction. Using darker strokes, I emphasised the boldness of the stripes, making them stand out against the lighter areas of the body.
Step 4
At this point, I completed adding the stripes to the body of the tiger, and then I began shading my drawing using soft strokes and cross-hatching techniques to create shadows beneath the tiger’s body and between its legs.
Step 5
Here I drew the tail, and I also added sketchy lines beneath its paws to suggest the ground it was walking on, giving the scene movement and context.
Step 6
Once the main details were complete, I went over the drawing again to refine the lines. I darkened certain areas, especially around the eyes and stripes, to bring out contrast. Erasing lightly in some spots helped add highlights, creating balance between light and shadow. Below is my final result.
Here's a selfie of me and my drawing.
Creating this pencil drawing of a tiger was both a challenge and a joy. What I loved most was how a simple piece of paper gradually transformed into a powerful image of one of nature’s most majestic creatures. Through this process, I was reminded that art is not about rushing to the end but about enjoying the journey of creation. Sharing this work on Steemit allows me to express my passion for drawing and, hopefully, inspire others to pick up a pencil and bring their imagination to life.
