"Rainy day"
Rainy days usually put things at a slower pace and mine became a disarmingly pretty surprise. It was a gloomy morning and the skies were dark with the thunderous beating of rain pelting on my window. I did not run through what I normally do in my life. I allowed myself to indulge in the silence. I took a hot cup of tea, got my favorite novel, and hid as behind the window as I could to see the raindrops challenge one another race down the window-pane.
By the middle of the morning the rain was stronger, and I determined to do the best thing I could do, to be indoors. I also tried some things out in the kitchen to recreate something magical out of common ingredients a piquant pepper soup with mushy chunks of yam. The smell spread throughout the entire house and I think that the rain outside was cheering me on.
Later on in the afternoon I had a funny idea. I went out umbrella in hand but not to do errands, mind you, but to be near the cool mist and to hear the rain first hand. The street was not as busy as before and the puddles were smiling mirrors of the gray sky. I went and tiptoed all around, and even smiled over that, till I couldn t help it, but splashed joylessly in like a child.
I went back into the house and had an idea to create. I drew a couple of weather-pictures--a deserted gas-lamp, a wet roof, two birds cowering upon a wire. The rain in some way drew out the artist in me.
Evening came and drizzled softly and I called one of my friends via video call. We joked around with nostalgic stories, we exchanged playlists of soothing rain music and swore on meeting each other soon. It seems that there is a special warmth to rainy weather when talking and communication is going on.
When night approached I put a candle burning and put on a blanket and wrote down what had happened that day in my journal. It was not spectacular and glamorous, but it was quiet, restful and brimming with minor pleasures to which I rarely pay attention. By the time I lay in bed I saw that rainy days are not bad at all, it is the reminder of nature that we should stop, breathe, and live at the moment.
