How are you all? I hope you are well. By the grace of God, I am also well. On the second day of Eid, we organised a jam-packed adda with friends. We chose the roof of our building as the venue, where there is a different joy of spending time under the open air and sky.

Our special event was a barbecue party. We all took a whole chicken, rubbed it with spices, and slowly grilled it over a coal fire. The smell of spices mixed with smoke was spreading around, and everyone's excitement was increasing. We did every step ourselves—from rubbing the meat to grilling.
The light evening breeze, chats, stories, laughter, and a delicious barbecue made by hand—all of this increased the joy of Eid several times. These moments of friendship are memorable.
Now I will write step by step how we had a barbecue.
We first went to the market for the barbecue. There, we bought a two-kilogram broiler chicken from a farm. Then I took barbecue spices and two lemons, which were needed for marinating the chicken.
My previous barbecue pot was ruined by rainwater. So I had to make a new arrangement. We built a small house on the roof of the building with eight bricks. Then we applied a layer of clay to strengthen it and built it well.
Then I placed the grill that we would use and measured it to see if everything was sitting properly. Thus, our barbecue setup was ready.
Then we dried the coals used for the barbecue well in the sun. Because if the coals are wet, then it takes a long time to catch fire, and it does not burn properly. Dry coals catch fire easily and provide more heat—which is very important for barbecue. After the coals are dried, we cut the chicken neatly and clean and wash it well so that it is ready to be seasoned. And I mixed the barbecue masala with mustard oil and lemon juice and marinated it with the chicken for two hours.
We marinated the chicken for about two hours. After the evening, we all went to the roof of the building and started preparing for the barbecue. We arranged the coals in the right place so that the fire spreads evenly — as you can see in the picture. Then I took out the marinated chicken from the fridge. The beautiful colour of the spices showed that the marinating was done properly. The excess water had drained from the meat on its own, which was suitable for grilling.
Then we lit the coals with the help of paper. Then we kept them warm with a fan for a long time so that the coals became completely burning. From the reddish glow and hot heat of the coals, I understood that now was the perfect time for grilling. Then I arranged the marinated chicken beautifully on the iron grill. This was the first grilling step of our barbecue—the meat slowly cooked over the coals.
After grilling the first side for about 6 to 8 minutes, we flipped the chicken pieces over. The roasting over the coals gave the meat a lovely brown colour—just as we wanted. We then brushed the chicken with the spices and mustard oil we had set aside earlier to help the flavours infuse more deeply and keep the outside soft and juicy.
As you can see in the picture, I am doing the barbecue myself, while a few small children are standing around, watching with curious eyes. It was very hot with the heat of the fire and the hot coals all around, so I took off my shirt to cool down. You can see a large leg piece in the picture—this was specially kept for my little sister, as she had asked us to keep her favourite pieces aside.
In the last step, we turned each piece of chicken twice and brushed it well with mustard oil each time so that each part is grilled evenly and smells good. Within 30 to 40 minutes, our delicious barbecue was completely ready. Then we prepared everything for serving. We all sat on the terrace, chatting and laughing, enjoying the hot chicken barbecue with tomato sauce. And finally, we ended this beautiful evening with cold drinks.
