Water Development Board, Rajshahi

T Dam is an important defensive dam in Rajshahi, built by the Bangladesh Water Development Board. This dam was originally built to protect the city and surrounding towns from the erosion of the Padma River. It plays an important role in changing the course of the river and preventing severe erosion. I visited this place a few days ago while traveling in the area. At this place you can see a huge entrance gate and in front of it there is a signboard which says that parking is prohibited in front of the gate.

The Water Development Board has fulfilled its goal of controlling water flow, providing irrigation facilities and protecting people from natural disasters through this project. It has had a positive impact on agriculture, environment and economy. Besides, this dam has enhanced the beauty of the area and it is now also popular as a place of entertainment and tourism. If you want to know about the location of this area then first you have to come to the Padma river ghat you will get any vehicle facility for this. However, you have to come to the middle of this place shown in the picture below and choose the road on the left.

From there you can see this huge Water Development Board gate. Although it is a tourist place, no ticket or money is required to go to this place, which is a convenience for all visitors. When you enter the gate, you will have to walk a little and on the left side you will see a pillar. This is a pillar of Bangladesh Water Development Board Rajshahi branch. This pillar has been built under this department. It was built a few years ago as a symbol of Water Development Board.

Since we had seen the T-dam a few days ago, we did not go there but went to the side of this Water Development Board where there is a huge banyan tree. It is a place where the wind always blows and people like to go and sit here. This is the most charming place on the river bank. A round circle has been made with bricks under this tree, it is very clean and tidy for sitting. This space has been kept where 30 to 50 people can sit together and there is a small shop next to it for food and drink.

Since we went in the morning, there were very few people. However, if you come here in the afternoon or at night, you may not find a place to sit because there are so many people here. Why should there be people? This is a place of great natural beauty. The Water Development Board manages all the measures related to the water in this river. When the river bank breaks, the Water Development Board works to protect the break by throwing sandbags. However, there is a very nice arrangement for tourists to sit on it. So that there is no problem during the rain, a steel canopy has been provided over the head. All the people who were with us were sitting there and talking.

Banyan tree is the oldest and largest tree in Bangladesh. It blows such a cool breeze that there is probably no other tree in the world that blows such a breeze. Its branches reach all the way to the river bank. If there is ever a light rain, not a single drop of rain will fall on you if you stand under this tree. There are small shops all around the Water Development Board where light snacks, ice cream, bread, coffee and drinks are available. Apart from this, there are boats for traveling on the river below the Water Development Board. We were discussing the Water Development Board and drinking tea there in a natural setting.

So, walking from there, I thought about going to the river bank and sitting for a while, so I walked from there and went to the river water. The river water was full and people were going out on boats every now and then. So I stood there and tried to understand the depth of the river. Bangladesh Water Development Board Rajshahi branch is a very beautiful and pleasant environment. They have maintained the beauty very well and played a very important role there. They have always made arrangements to keep the river bank clean so that the tourists who come there get good service. I stood in front of the river and took a selfie.
