Aronnalay Mini Zoo, Savar, Dhaka.

A zoo is a kind of place that makes me excited and sad at the same time. As Frans de Wall said,

I am personally not against keeping animals at zoos, as they serve a huge educational purpose, but treating them well and with respect seems the least we could do, and with 'we' I mean not just zoo staff, but most certainly also the public.

I feel excited that I am going to meet the wild, but it saddens me that the wild is in captivity. Well, focus on a small zoo in my area.

Aronnalay is a mini zoo, under the governance of the Bangladesh Army, the zoo is a part of the Military Farm, Savar.

Main Entrance from N5 Road

The zoo is a half km away from the main entrance gate. That long-distance road is well decorated with natural elements. A road that reminds you that you are in the middle of a jungle. There is another gate, where you can buy tickets and enter the main part of the zoo.

Long Green Entrance Road

If you're a military person, there is a huge discount to buy a ticket.

The first cage is the deer cage. In my opinion, vegan animals may not mind being caged. I have never seen any vegan animals look sad in a cage. I feel that they have a safer life here than in the wild. The area of the deer cage is large enough. Green and have a natural source of food. Even, no tension for water supply. A man-made lake is near the border. Deer can drink that water directly. There are a few variants of deer and the cage is one after another. The service is almost the same for all cages.

Two variants of Deer

The next thing we saw was a Crocodile. Don’t need to panic. The crocodile is not alive. It is a symbolic concrete crocodile that looks nice and real. Children like that a lot. I noticed the largest gathering near that. Everyone wants to touch that. I can not imagine what would have happened if that were alive!

There is a case of Porcupine. Though I saw one, I believe there are a couple of porcupines.
There is a case of bull. I saw a few horses alongside the bulls.
A case of a Guinea pig.
Ducks are one of the most common domestic birds in Bangladesh. In this zoo, there are a lot of ducks. An interesting fact is, these ducks are not captivated at all. They are enjoying a normal life. A free creature in the zoo.

Ostrich can also be seen here. I am afraid that this is a lone ostrich living here.
The most heartbreaking cage in this zoo is the Bear cage. A lone black bear. The only predator of the zoo, if I left out the Python. It was angry. Walking like that is going to break the iron cage. I felt heartbroken after seeing that.
The Lone Bear
Monkey. A lot of monkeys in a cage. You know how the monkeys are and what they used to do. Kids like the monkey the most. They think that only monkeys can understand their situation.

There are a lot of Mules. A horse-like hybrid animal. I have never seen a mule. I thought that they were horses. But the nameplate helped me to find out the identity of those animals.

Mule

The next cage of Mule is a Bhutani cow. I saw that cow in our National Zoo, Dhaka. That's why I knew them. This family of cows looks cute.

There are some other domestic animal cages. Hen, goat, birds, etc.

There are two more interesting non-zoo facilities. One is for children. One is for adults. There is child play playground. We needed to buy a ticket for each. Children under 3 are free to enter. Though that is for children. Haha. Here, a few playing facilities for free. But riding the Troy train, there are some fees to pay. Here is the list.

The adult facility is journeyed by Steamboat. Two types of boats. One is for couples. It is foot-driven. The other one is a large number of people. At a time, 20+ people can enjoy that journey.

End of the day, it is a high-budget expanse with low-quality service compared to other Zoos in the country. But, a place you can spend quality time.
