This plant is the Rain Lily. In Bengali, it is also sometimes called the Rain Lily, Zephyr Flower, or Zephyr Lily. Scientific name: Zephyranthes rosea, is believed to be native to South and Central America, but is now planted in many countries around the world for its beauty.

The leaves are narrow, long and grass-like. The plant is usually 10-20 centimeters tall. The flowers bloom singly, on long stalks emerging from the middle of the leaves. The color of the flowers is usually pink, yellow, white or light red. Each flower has 6 petals. The flowers bloom suddenly when it rains at the beginning of the monsoon season. Hence the name - Rain Lily.

Prefers full sun or partial shade. Well-drained sandy-loam soil is suitable. Regular watering is required, but excessive standing water can cause rot. It is best to apply organic fertilizer or light flower fertilizer a few times a year. Small bulbs are usually produced from the roots of the plant. They can be planted separately to become new plants. Seedlings can also be grown from seeds, but they grow slowly. Used to enhance the beauty of the garden. Looks great in pots, on the edge of the garden, or scattered naturally. Grows very easily and can survive with little care.

Rain Lily Poem

In the lap of the wet soil of the monsoon,
On a quiet morning, with dew falling,
Suddenly a face smiles,
Rain lily, the happiness of the rain.

It cries out loudly,
A lotus is woven in the illusion of silence.
In a piece of rainbow color,
It blooms and breaks the heart.

It has no smell, no price,
Yet it brings lust to the heart.
Standing on the corner of the wet leaves,
It says, when will I be like you?

To the tune of the first drop of rain,
It breaks sleep in the murmur of its soil.
It blooms in a day, smiles,
And disappears again in despair.

Yet every time the sky cries,
It returns to the bend of life.
Like life, a fleeting flower,
Yet it gives a sigh to the heart.
