How are you all? I hope everyone is well. I am also well by the infinite mercy of Allah. Like every day, today I have come before you with a new post. Almost all kinds of incidents happen around us. The incidents are often instructive, painful, tragic, and inspiring. That is why today I have come with a story again. I hope you will enjoy reading my writing.

It is known as Notey shak. It is very commonly seen growing in rural and suburban areas of Bengal. It belongs to the Amaranthus viridis species, which is called shak-notey, notey shak or gima shak in Bengali. Scientific name: Amaranthus viridis.

The plant usually grows up to 30–80 centimeters tall. The leaves are large, oval and shiny green. The edges of the leaves are slightly wavy. The stem is soft and green in color. It grows more in summer and monsoon, but can grow throughout the year. Notey shak is common in many Asian countries including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka.

It grows naturally on roadsides, in gardens, wastelands, and open courtyards. Notey shak contains a lot of vitamins A, B, C, calcium, iron, potassium, protein and fiber.

Increases blood (as it is rich in iron). Helps in digestion. Keeps the body cool. Useful in urinary problems and constipation.

Effective in reducing body heat in summer. Eaten as curry, bhaji, dal, khichdi or bharta. Sometimes the juice of the leaves is used in treatment.
