"SLC27-W1 | A One-Day Street Journalist: Festival-centric business."
Assalamu Alaikum friends,
Hope you are well and I am also well, Alhamdulillah. Today I am going to prepare a report as a one-day street journalist of the 27th season organized by @max-pro. The title of the 1st week was festival-centered businesses. The biggest festival currently going on in Bangladesh is Durga Puja of Hindus. I will prepare a report on a business that has developed around a place of worship near me.
What are the festival-centered businesses in your area? |

During the puja, a large number of people gather at each place of worship and some businesses are established around this gathering of people. The highest sales at these festivals are children's toys, clay items, Hindu religious books, gas balloons, the highest business is the food business. Various types of food businesses are established around the entire festival site.
Have you ever bought anything from these shops? Show pictures + videos and show prices. |

When I was a child, I used to go to these fairs a lot and buy toys. Since then, I have avoided these festivals for religious reasons. After a long time, I went to this festival again today as a journalist for a day, but I went to the businesses that have been established outside their puja mandabs or religious places and talked to them. I could not buy anything because the prices seemed high during the fair. I thought the prices of these things were higher than what they normally cost at other times. I talked to these businessmen sometimes.
I first tried to talk to the plastic toy seller but his shop was crowded with many customers so the conversation didn't last long. He sells 10000 BDT (650 Steem) per day. On the other hand, this mobile gas balloon seller prepares 100 balloons per day in two stages and now has only 6 balloons in his hand. He is selling each of these balloons for 80-100 Taka (5-6.5 Steem). At the same time, the food shops are crowded but they are also selling a lot of delicious food throughout the day.
Here is another one selling clay toys and handicrafts, which had relatively few buyers due to their high prices. These are made and sold by potters, but the trader here is not a potter, he buys wholesale from potters and sells them retail, which results in a slightly higher price. I am listing the prices of some of the products after visiting each trader's shop below.
Plastic car | 1 piece | 120 BDT | 8 |
---|---|---|---|
Gas balloon | 1 piece | 100 BDT | 6.50 steem |
Clay vase | 1 piece | 100 BDT | 6.50steem |
Clay bird | 1 piece | 40 BDT | 2.60 steem |
Clay toys | 1 piece | 40 - 200 BDT | 2.60 -13steem |
Why are people more attracted to street shops during festivals? |
---|
During festivals, many people are attracted to these products, especially for children. Children's toys are available in these festival-centered businesses. At other times, you have to go to specific markets to buy these products, but during festivals, they are available at hand. During festivals, everyone wants to have this joy and traders present their products very brightly to attract customers, as a result of which the buyer expresses his desire to buy as soon as he sees them.
Are these businesses contributing to the preservation of local culture? |
---|
In our country, many of these business cultures have been around festivals for a long time. Especially food shops and children's clay toys. They are mixed with our local and national culture. A class of people in my country earn their living by making these clay toys.
I talked to these traders for some time to prepare this report and realized that although their sales are high during festivals, their sales decrease completely at other times. Especially the seller of clay products, he laments that at some point they will have to close this pottery industry and move on to other professions. Many of their potters have now joined other professions due to the decline in sales of this business. I enjoyed my one-day street journalism very much.
I invite you @ulfatulrahmah @sabrip @pandora2010 to participate in this competition.
