SLC26-W3 | Street Business Diaries: Street Cobbler, Mobile Accessories or Street Clothes.
Assalamu alaikum Everyone. I am @imranhassan From #Bangladesh
The third week of Steemit Challenge Season 26 is a fun competition for us or for me. The thing you have highlighted in this competition is very useful. And a very useful need for the lower and middle classes, we who eat and shop from the sidewalk, is to save our expenses. Because if I had more money, we would go to big super shops or big brand stores and buy a shirt for 3 thousand taka and a pair of pants for 5 thousand taka.
But to save expenses, we sew shoes from cobblers; we buy pants from sidewalk shops. And to give us clothes at low prices, they also go to different big markets and hand over good quality products to us at low prices. And once upon a time, the back cover of the mobile phone was a style, but now it is our daily necessity, and this thing is not available everywhere all the time, but there is one place where even if it is not available anywhere else, it is available in this area according to your phone model, which is Gulistan. Because from here the products are supplied all over Bangladesh, since we live in Narayanganj, we need 30 taka for a car rental to go from Narayanganj to Gulistan, and it takes only 30 to 40 minutes.
I always buy all the daily necessities for my family, me and my work from Gulistan in Dhaka, so let's show you some real experiences of Gulistan in Dhaka, and there will be a video with it.
Going to the cobbler uncle to have shoes sewn.

First, we went to the cobbler uncle and went to see him; he was busy with another work. Then we talked to him, and I and my sister's husband, we both went to Gulistan to share today's experience, so we also had some work. We will do some shopping as per the contest, so first we sewed our shoes. So here I sewed my leather sandals for 20 taka, and my sister's husband's loafer shoes were sewn for 120 taka, and I made them beautiful by inking.

Then we went to the sidewalk shirt and pants, then to the shop selling various cosmetics. There we went around; we needed to buy two pants and two shirts, so my sister's husband bought two pants for 800 taka for 1600 taka, and I bought two shirts for 550 taka for 1100 taka, and unfortunately I didn't remember to take a photograph of his pants. Most of our Bangladeshi garments come here, and many beautiful shirts and shirts are available here at very low prices, which are sold in branded stores for fifteen hundred to two thousand taka.
Then we visited shops selling mobile phone covers.

Then this Gulistan is the most popular and famous electronics and mobile parts and repair place; people come here from all over Bangladesh because many expensive phones and accessories come here to get fixed. If there are local repair people who can't fix their phones in their area, those mechanics come here to get the phones fixed and hand them over to the villagers who let them fix the phones.
And there are more than 100 shops selling mobile back covers. You will walk along the road, and there are rows of phone back cover shops, and there are so many types of phone back covers that you can't stop looking and counting and choosing, and from here I always buy my phone back covers. If a phone back cover sells for 250 taka in your local market, in this Gulistan market you will get it for a maximum of 100 to 120 taka and within 150 taka.
What type of daily necessities business is in the highest demand in your area? (Street cobblers, mobile accessories or street clothes, etc.) |
---|
Everything is available in my area, but the prices are a bit high here, and the footpath shops are not very popular. In our area there is a market called Kachpur, and there is a market called Demra Staff Quarter. There is no such footpath market there, but we mostly shop from Gulistan. And the market I talked about today, Gulistan Bazaar, has everything you need, from waking up in the morning to going to bed at night, from electronic devices, gadgets, accessories, cosmetics, clothes, cobblers, curry, and chicken. Everything is available here.
Did you buy these yourself, or did you visit? Show pictures and videos and show prices. |

I have videotaped everything I did in this market and it is mentioned here.
Yes, I bought them and visited them myself and made videos, and I shared the prices in the video.
How is the quality of these products? Also, if you have any experience about how long they last, please tell me. |
---|
The quality of these products is fairly good, not too bad or not too good, and they last for six to eight months, and some clothes can be worn on the body for up to a year, and I always buy shirts from here for duty, and for travelling, I buy them from the market within a medium budget or buy pants pieces from the tailor shop. But from here, I always use the shirts and T-shirts and pants that I buy from the sidewalk.
How do people treat street vendors? (Sympathetic, ignoring, bargaining, etc.) |
---|
Sidewalk shops are a blessing for us. And I always respect those who run shops on the sidewalks because they always run their shops here in a challenging manner because the administration always stops them from doing business and throws them out of there, and they get upset. And they have to do business by negotiating with the influential people in the area. But another interesting thing here is that the shopkeepers here try to bargain a little differently, and sometimes they get into a fight with the shopkeeper, and the shopkeeper does not want to let the customer go. If he wants 500 taka, he brings it down to 200 taka and still has to take the product from him, so this is a problem here.
