"SLC27-W1 | A One-Day Street Journalist: Festival-centric business"

Hello Friends ✨

How are you all? I hope you are all well. I am also doing well. Today I am sharing with you about some of the shops at a Cottage industries and trade fairs. Mainly here I am sharing a review of a Chanachur shop. However, since the fair is very big and it is related to cottage industries, I will highlight some of the artisan shops here. For example, I will try to highlight the clothing industry and pottery here. In addition, I will share information about some other food shops. This fair started a few days ago. This fair in Gazipur has gone viral on social media. A lot of people are coming here, especially for the decoration. I live in Joydevpur, Gazipur. And this fair is located towards Shimul Tuli.If you take a bus from Joydevpur, the fare will be 10 taka, and if you take a rickshaw, the fare will be around 50 taka. We went in the afternoon so that we could stay until evening.

The front view of the fair

This is the main gate of the fair. This is the entrance to the fair. It's a pretty big place and there are plenty of parking spaces in front. To enter the fair, you have to buy a ticket worth 20 taka. Then the lottery is played again with that ticket. Every day, gifts are given out in a raffle draw among the tickets. I went to this fair yesterday.

01. What are the Festival-centric businesses in your area?

When I talk about festival-focused businesses in my area, many types of businesses come to mind. First of all, food shops are one of the businesses centered around this festival. When we go out for any festival, we have to eat something or the other to go somewhere. This includes many types of businesses such as Jhalmuri, Chanachur Makha, Fuchka, vhelpuri, icecream, fast food, Pickle shop, fried food shop, Hawai mithai, tea shop. In addition to food items, there are toy shops, clothing stores, and shops selling various clay items. There are also a variety of games and rides. This fair included a charki and a boat ride. There is also a business selling various household necessities. There are also magic shows, motorcycle shows, concerts, 3D animation,Children's rides. There is also a photography-based business here. Most of the people who visit this fair have their pictures taken by photographers in beautiful lighting.

02 Have you ever bought anything from these stores? Show pictures + videos and show their prices

I tried the chanachur makh here. They made it with a lot of fun using chanachur, chickpeas, and various spices.I really like eating it. Although the food at the shop is quite good, I find the prices to be quite high. Other than that, I found the behavior of the store employees to be quite good. And they make them quite cleanly.

03 Why are people more attracted to street stalls during festivals?

Many different types of shops are set up during different festivals and they are decorated beautifully, creating a festive atmosphere. These attract people during festivals. Also, during festivals, the prices of various items are fairly low and often you see something new. People are attracted to these things because of them. Also, at such festivals, there are often shops selling traditional items that attract people even more.

Soil objects

Here I have given some pictures of things made of clay. These are rarely seen now except at fairs like this. They are slowly disappearing due to modernization. I saw things made of clay after many years. I mean these kinds of toy-type things. There were very beautiful clay dolls here, as well as various types of vegetables and fruits made of clay. But these are quite good for decorating the house. In addition, there were clay banks, vases, and cups.I like vegetables and fruits made from clay a lot.Making these is a matter of great skill. They are beautifully made with tomatoes, garlic, papaya,Eggs and dates were there. They look great when arranged on the dining table. And these are kind of traditional things.

04 Are these businesses contributing to preserving local culture?

Yes, of course these small businesses help preserve our local culture. At such festivals or fairs, there are various types of toys, food, and traditional items. There are also traditional dresses from different places. The fair I went to was basically a cottage industry and trade fair. These things contribute more to this type of fair. For example, let's take the clay objects I was talking about a while ago. Pottery is a very traditional art in our country, Bangladesh, but it is slowly disappearing. By going to such fairs, we can see such cottage industries and teach future generations about them.Which is why such shops are very useful at fairs. However, new products made of many materials are emerging as alternatives, which is why people are not very keen on using these products. But if we buy such products, they will help preserve these cultures even more.

Small Business with the stories of struggle and survival

In this picture, I shared a photograph of three people who are running small businesses at the fair. There are actually many stories behind their business. For example, the little kid who is Hawai Mithai at such a young age, but he shouldn't be doing such work. Maybe he is forced to do such work due to circumstances. This type of business does not make much profit, but rather they have to do it with more difficulty. They don't sell much because they stand there all the time.

Traditional Dress

This fair is decorated very beautifully. The various lightings make it even more beautiful at night. Here I have shared pictures of some more food shops, toy shops, and clothing stores. This clothing store also carries a lot of tradition. There were different types of clothes here, the names of which we did not know or had never heard of before.
