SLC26-W3 | Street Business Diaries: Street Cobbler, Mobile Accessories or Street Clothes.
Greetings Readers
Balenciaga, cargo pants, and polos are for the guys as well and this were the quality of products i found in this street they are of a high class. We have only a few names for the outfits we wear, but the colour combinations appeal to us. This place wasn't particularly appealing at first, so I went to the far end of this street to review an accessories shop I discovered a few months ago. When I arrived, a friend informed me that the shop owner had relocated a few months prior due to a poor business citation and inability to attract potential customers. I quickly returned to this clothing store, where I needed to study every personal narrative behind this business and how it was progressing.
For small street businesses, their stands are always shared; that is why most times the person seen in a particular place may not be the same person seen the next day but may be seen a few metres away. That's how most street vendors work, and in most cases they are joined together; if the first sells phone parts like pouches, the other may sell delicate items like screens, touchpads, and so on.
My Observation
Getting here, I noticed something in this shop, a kind of family joint venture, where the husbands sew cloth, and the wife hangs the ready-made boutique-type clothes outside. This is a very good method; as you know, Nigeria sews uniform-style clothing for occasions such as weddings, funerals, birthdays, and possibly get-togethers, so as individuals come in to measure fabric, they find this cloth appealing and may purchase it. To attract the correct consumers, the wife now sells men's clothing rather than women's clothing.
Its situation is very close to the main road, as you can see, and these passersby look more than twice at this outfit, so this time I will be writing down the exact review of this woman as stated in the video clip. The roadway noise may interfere with audio quality, but if you listen closely, you will pick up on a few points from this woman. Before I begin, I want to thank her for spending time here with me; she even asked if I was a content creator, and with the Steem polo, I used this medium to promote Steemit...
Introducing myself
For familiarity purposes, I started by introducing myself as Nsisong John Robert to this woman. I asked her how her business was going; she told me it was fine. She immediately proceeded to tell me the prices for her goods, and I was driven to ask her how the market was treating her, to which she replied that she was doing exceptionally well in her business.
Business Interview; Key Questions I Asked
Me: According to most people, they say the cloth business is not a very fast-moving business, as people prefer buying foodstuff over cloth. What can you say about that?
The Trader: That is partially true; clothes are also an essential commodity, and whenever the need arises to purchase them, we often do. The clothes market is also a fast-moving market, and its quick sales depend on the seller's price tag. Some want to make a very substantial profit from clothes marketing, and they end up chasing away customers who would have purchased an item with a price still profitable to them.
My realisation: much like in the crypto market, greed exists in the physical market, causing dealers to lose potential clients. This trader's % fall in greed level resulted in sales today...
Me: Ma, as someone who has been here for a while, what is the projected start-up capital for this business? If I want to start this on a small scale, how much do you think I should start with?
The Trader: With N200,000, which is about 1300 STEEM, she said I could begin, and she also stated that it depends on my stock and what I will put in place.
My realisation: I believe her estimate was based on my structure; she is actually afraid to call the price, fearing I will be unable to start up if I do, but looking at the price of trousers and shirts alone, I don't think 200,000 can give this business an attractive start, but rather 500k-1M naira.
Me: Ma I really appreciate you for finding time for me to give your business a review even though I will not be purchasing your goods now. Thank you so much. With time, and when I am financially buoyant, I will pay this place a visit. For having time for this great audience, which is me and my audience on the Steemit platform,I will share your contact information with my fellow Steemit users in case they are interested in making a purchase.
She even said how thrilled she was to see herself online. My goodness, I just found out that she works as a nurse and that today is her day off. She comes around to take full control of her business while her husband sews on days like this.
This is my experience with the street business review. She is involved in her business full-time and part-time. Full-time in the sense that she understands everything about it and can guide a newcomer, and part-time in the sense that she works for the government and jumps in on her spare days. Her business does not have a name; it is a side hustle that she runs to support her family. In Nigeria, even well-paid workers have a side job to supplement their income. |

People Behaviour Towards Street Vendor
In high class boutique there is not bargaining, you pay what is tagged on each product, but for street vendors this is not the case, customers always bargain even in their knowledge of the present economic turn down, I am not exempted, I bargain prices and most times I get a subsidy.
Visit/Buy
I only visited this place and their products are quite moderate in price, I also have an intention of purchasing her product anytime soon
Longetivity
Longetivity depends on management, management comprises of the detergents used in washing and exposure, if you expose some clothes like the cotton polo to too much heat it may not take you for long, but the minimum lifespan of this clothes if it is not mistakenly torn is 2½ years.
