SLC27-W3 | A One-Day Street Journalist: Business at the transport station

Hello friends

It is becoming more risky every day to make videos or take pictures of businesses in my city, i wasn't able to carry on with week one and two because of this reason. I couldn't make a video this time only pictures which I even had to hide to achieve it.

Which transport station in your city did you visit? Review a business there

The transport station I visited in my city is Ifesinachi Express for short it is called IFEX. This bus station is located in the city of Lagos precisely at Jibowu Street yaba, a very popular place where there are many bus stations.

Name of Business and location

The business I reviewed is just by the side of this bus station called ifex. I reviewed a street food called k & C kitchen. A place where both travellers, non travellers go and have their delicious meal.

K &C kitchen

K&c kitchen is a street food business along the road. With a banner to quickly identify it from afar. A place where food is sold.

K&C kitchen is located at Jibowu Street yaba Lagos just by the side of the bus station of ifex the owners of osinachi or Ifesinachi buses.

Owner and how long existed

The K&C kitchen is owned by a beautiful young lady, but she is not the only one running the business, since the business is not so big, she has one more extra person helping her out with the business. This was what I observed.

K & C business has existed for a while now, from my findings it has existed for more than 3 years and I can say they are doing very well even though there are places that needs to be improved on to stimulate growth of the business.

Types of food sold

They sell all kinds of food such as fried rice, jollof Rice, fried plantains, salad, oha soup, bitter leaf, Banga soup, ogbono soup with different varieties of swallow like fufu, eba and semo.

The food taste all good but I think this street food specializes more on our locally delicacies like soups and swallows.

Entrance and exterior design

The entrance to K&C kitchen is quite unique having an exterior design of class doors with a half cut window. Although the door is not full glass but the part made of glass is transparent and it's at the top.

Exterior/Entrance to the shop

The door entrance is wide enough and it's kept open for proper ventilation. Beautiful graphic food were made at the door to attract people showing them that it's a place where food is sold.

Interior Design and arrangement

Even though outside seems noisy, as soon as you enter where the food is sold, you are welcomed with a peaceful environment with less noise. Every customer just wants to enjoy their meal and catch up with their bus.

The chairs and tables are made of wood painted with brown with a form like part painted with purple colour. There are wall papers handing in the wall although very simple but it adds to the beauty of the place.

Although there are sockets on the wall for customers to charge their phones but there is a notice on the wall saying charging of phone is at owners risk. Which means if when any customer plugs their phone, they are responsible to look after it because in a situation where the phone is missing, the owner of the street food will not be held responsible.

Service and staff

Like I said earlier there are only two persons working here because of how small it is. One person cooks the food and the other person serves but when the lady is done cooking she joins to serve the food.

When I walked into the place, I was welcomed by the lady asking me to seat comfortably, she asked me what I would like to eat and how much it cost. With a smile she attended to me.

From my experience, their service is lovely, the environment is neat. As soon as a customer finish eating, plates are cleared and table cleaned. Payment is done in cash or transfers, and it is pay before service.

You may not have an opportunity to do a review if you won't buy anything since permission is not granted when asked. I wasn't able to make a video because it's not allowed.

Yes I have bought things from the store. I bought afang soup and semo, one of our local delicacy although it is mostly eaten by the people of the Southern part of Nigeria. Below is the picture

Why are passengers more attracted to these shops?

These are some reasons why passengers are attracted to this shop.

• Quality of food

Passengers are attracted to this shop because of the quality of food sold here. The food is well cooked, looks presentable and taste good too. Tell me who doesn't like to eat good food? They need to eat well prepared food so that they don't have issues with their stomach as they travel on the road.

• Affordable

The price of food sold here is affordable compared to the quality. You can eat well to your satisfaction with just little amount of money. Many passengers are looking for a place where they won't need to spend so much on food because they are traveling.

• Nearest to the bus station and the road

Passengers are attracted to this shop because of its nearest to the bus station and because it's on the road. Many passengers will not want to miss there bus because they were eating so they tend to go to places closer to where they boarded bus for travel. This is the reason why they are attracted to K&C kitchen.

• Neatness of the shop

This is another reason why many passengers likes coming here because they are strict with their Nearness. The environment is clean. Many do not like a dirty looking place just like me so like other passengers I prefer to be safe.

Are these businesses creating employment opportunities for local unemployed youth

Unemployment is very common in this part of the country. Many businesses like this one has been very helpful to provide employment to youths.

Yes they are even though in K&C kitchen, they one have one staff aside the owners working hand in hand with the staff. But there are other street food business larger than this shop providing people with employment opportunities.

Many youths have gotten busy especially around this transport stations, some serve as waiter's in shops, some serves as cleaners, some cook in these shop as chef and bake
