Today afternoon I go to Madhabdi.Next to Madhabdi Big Mosque, a small fair-like gathering often takes place in front of the large mosque. Here, various shops set up, selling different types of perfumes, fragrant tasbeehs, etc. In addition, there are various food stalls, such as fast food, pickles, seasonal foods, and shops selling prayer caps and other necessary items for prayer. . These shops are usually set up in the open street in a vacant area, opening in the morning and continuing until the evening.

01:What are the Festival-centric businesses in your area?

In my area, various fairs and festivals take place. During this time, a number of shops and small businesses emerge centered around the festivities. These include various temporary fairs, Waj Mahfil on different Islamic topics, and social fairs, among others. We Muslims celebrate two Eids each year, and Hindus have festivals like Kali Puja and Durga Puja fairs. Additionally, there are Baisakhi and Falgun festivals, among others. We Bengalis generally love festivals and enjoy traveling.Today, I went to a fair that was taking place in front of a mosque. There isn't much space in a large area here, but small shops have set up on both sides of the road and around the mosque, and some traders have shown up.

Have you ever bought anything from these stores? Show pictures + videos and show their prices.

Yes, I shop from these stores and bring things home, but by the end of the month, my hands are completely empty, which is why I couldn't buy anything I liked when I went to the fair today. On my way back, I bought a sandwich from a fast food shop there. Most of the things available there were prayer beads, prayer mats, caps, perfumes, etc., which I already have at home, so I didn't need to buy much.

03:Why are people more attracted to street stalls during festivals?

During the fair, people are attracted to these for many reasons. People are generally very interested and curious about everything, which is why whenever there is a fair, we feel the urge to enter as we pass by, wanting to see many things, wanting to buy, or wanting to enjoy various foods. During the fair, different kinds of lights and decorations create a colorful atmosphere, which further attracts people. The shops are set up right on the streets, making them noticeable while walking, and our attention easily shifts towards them, making shopping convenient.

04:Are these businesses contributing to preserving local culture?

Certainly, small fairs, events, and festivals are intertwined with our social culture in various ways. I believe that visiting a fair is not just about seeing things but also about buying something to keep as a memory, and from this, creating experiences. Often, families, friends, and acquaintances come to the fair together, which enhances social bonds. Various foods are available, and at different religious events, sweets like jilapi are seen, which we have been coming across since childhood. This also falls under the category of traditional foods. We can observe various folk arts, handicrafts, and the work of artisans that remind us of our past cultural heritage.
