Hello everyone,

It is great to be here with you all again. Today I would like to discuss Achievement Task 3 which focuses on the content rules here on Steemit.

Why Rules Matter:

Rules play an important role in keeping Steemit a fair and positive space for everyone. They encourage users to share original content and treat each other with respect.

What Is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism means using someone elses work whether it is text, images or ideas without giving them proper credit.

Different Types of Plagiarism

  • Complete Plagiarism: Copying an entire piece of work exactly as it is.
  • Direct Plagiarism: Taking sections of someone else’s work without citing the source.
  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing your own previously published work as if it were new.
  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Combining content from various sources without proper references.
  • Accidental Plagiarism: Unintentionally copying someone’s work, which can happen especially with those who are new.

According to Miranda Devine plagiarism is :

"Plagiarism is one of the great academic sins. It has the power to destroy a scholar or writer and turn a lifetime's work to dust." — Miranda Devin

How to Avoid Plagiarism:

Plagiarism is unethical. It involves claiming someone else work as your own. Here is how you can create original content:

  • Learn before you write: Study the topic thoroughly and make sure you understand it well.
  • Use your own words: Instead of copying, explain ideas simply as if you were teaching a friend.
  • Add your own examples too.

Using Quotes the Right Way

Quotes can be useful when someone else words perfectly capture your point. Here’s how to use them correctly:

  • Place the exact words in quotation marks.
  • Always mention who said or wrote them.
  • Include where you found the quote.

Example:

If you are writing about motivation you could use:

"If you can dream it, you can do it." Walt Disney

What Is a Citation?

A citation means giving credit to the original author or source where you found the information.

Example:

If you include a well known quote like:

"ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD" William Shakespeare.

Make sure to:

  • Use quotation marks around the original words.
  • Name the author.
  • Share the source.

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette within the Steemit Community. I will try my best to follow these guidelines.
