Focus On What You Have, Not What You Lack
The natural human mind is drawn to seeing what others have - their assets, money, connection, talents, and their opportunities which they believe makes their journey easier. When you begin to measure your success against what you have seen in others, you may begin to think that you are inadequate or that you are not doing enough. However, you need to understand that success is not a function of having everything in life, but its foundation is actually in making the most of what you have. A lot of the great achievements you see today are not born out of the place of abundance, but out of determination and resourcefulness. The principle behind moving forward is to stop focusing on what you lack and make the most of what is in your hands.

Every human actually has something. It may be a talent, a skill, little resources, or even time. The problem is that some people underestimate what is in their hands, and even dismiss little beginnings, thinking that they do not matter. The tool you will use to move from where you are to where you need to be might just be in your hands. I have a friend who, after finishing from school, was looking for employment. He spent many months looking for employment but it was not forthcoming. He studied Fine Art, and has always dreamt of having his own art studio, but he thought that he needed a job to be able to raise money. This was actually why he was looking for the job.
When he told me about it, I told him that since the job was not forthcoming, that he should look at what is in his hands; his skills, then he should use it to raise money. He knows how to paint, so he attached himself with a local builder and was helping him to paint. The builder liked his work and connected him to other builders who also gave him contracts to paint. Little by little, he was coupling up money. In less than 1 year, he raised money and rented a place for his studio. After a few months, he started equipping it. At this moment, which is just a few years later, his art studio now attracts people from within and outside the country. He used what he had already at hand to get what he was looking for.
The entire support that you need for a step may not be avaliable, but it should not stop you from starting. As a matter of fact, a lot of the world's successful people did not start from greatness but from small beginnings. The answer to your wish may be right before you, but you just need to focus more on what is in your hands. When you start with what you have, you will be surprised what you can achieve over time. Instead of waiting and wishing for the perfect start or the perfect opportunity to start, it is better to look inwards and use what you have to start. The point is that you start, and more progress will be made along the way. What you have in your hands is more than enough to take the step that you need.

By focusing on what you have and not what you lack can reduce competition mentality and increase your heart of appreciation. When you know that what you have is enough to take up your journey, you will be more contented with life. What someone has or does not have should not stop you from having your own. So focus of what you want to do, do what you have to do with what you have. A friend once said that "if you want to climb a staircase, you do not have to wait until you have seen the entire stairs before you climb, just take the first step." When you are embarking on a journey, you need to know the destination, but you may have many routes to get there based on what works for you.
You may not be able to understand the potency of what you have at hand until you put it to use. If you have a seed at hand, it may look small, but right inside it is a tree and even a forest. Do not wait until you have more before you take a step. Start with the little you have at hand and keep putting in efforts. Life often rewards more of the people who have made the most of even the little that they have than those who have the most of what they need.
