Light Up Where You Are

in Project HOPE2 days ago

A lot of people think that for them to make an impact, they have to be given a big stage, or maybe given a massive opportunity. Well, what needs to be understood is that you can actually shine from where you are. Always try to make an impact in the environment you find yourself in, no matter how small. You will agree with me that light does not have to be placed inside a stadium or on a large stage for it to shine, it can shine from where it is. Even a very small candle you put in a dark room at night will make a very massive impact. In the same way, everyone has the ability to shine where they are, no matter how ordinary their environment may look like.

lightening where you are starts by recognising that your environment, situation, background and the resources at your disposal should not limit you. A lot of people tend to underestimate the power that is resident in small beginnings. They will be thinking that when they have enough resources, they will be able to help people. However, they tend to forget that you do not need all the resources in the whole world before you help. You can make a difference even with the little you have. In a dark room at night, you may not have to wait until you have a floodlight before you lit the room, even something as little as a candle can make a difference.

You can start from what you have, from where you are, and with the resources at your disposal, no matter how small, then you will eventually change the world for better. All you need is the willingness to help, with a heart for humanity, and you will see that what you have can make a difference in the life of someone. You may have already known about Mother Teresa. Her humanitarian works are still being remembered even after decades of being gone. Well, just to remind you that she did not start from the place of millions. She started by helping the sick and the poor people on the streets of Calcutta with the little she had. Over time, it grew to a global movement of charity.

There are many things you can do to light up where you are. This can include being kind to your neighbour, encouraging and motivating someone, teaching someone a skill you have learnt, or even living with integrity and being someone that can be trusted. These acts may seem small, but they can beam the light to the dark world. There is no good deed that is regarded as being too small. In this world that is already full of cruelty, unkindness, and darkness, the little acts of goodness you show can be the light that someone would need to see their way through. Your light should shine from where you are and let people feel your impact while you are with them.

One very unique thing about light is that it does not compete with each other. For example; the sun knows when to shine - within the day, and the moon knows when to reflect - at night. Each one shines or reflects at its own time without competing with each other. In the same way, you do not need to compare your acts of goodness with others. What others do or do not do should not prevent you from shining your light where you are. Your duty is to bring your own unique light in its unique way where you are. There is a feeling of fulfilment and happiness that is triggered within you when you know that someone is feeling better because of your acts of goodness towards them.

Wherever you are now, you may be a student, worker, leader, parent, etc, always remember that you can shine where you are. You do not have to wait until the future to shine, start from now. By doing that, you will not only make someone feel better, but you will also motivate others to shine. In that way, the world will become better. When you shine, and others shine too, the community will be full of lights. Remember that your light will not get dim because you shone it to others. In same way, you will not go down by helping someone to rise.
