My Sports Hobby

A hobby, a recreational activity we do during our leisure, for some it brings peace of mind and comfort; it is what we do to connect with ourselves, getting rid of the stresses of everyday activity.Let's delve into my hobby. I, as a person, have different hobbies, but the one that stands out is my sport hobby, which is football.

HOW DID THIS DEVELOP?

Growing up, we were used to watching football stars on television, from the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Hazard, etc. We often fell in love with the players due to their playing style, finesse and goal-scoring abilities. I, being a football lover, fell in love with the football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, "the greatest player of all time". Though many may not agree with this due to their bias and sentimental judgement, football is not only based on talent but also hard work. Rival fans (anti-Ronaldo supporters) would come out saying Messi is the best because he is more talented than Ronaldo when perhaps he is being protected by the football federation body. "Talent is better than hard work, they say, but when there is no talent, there should be no need for hard work. And even with the little talent Ronaldo had, he worked hard to improve it, and he is today a football legend. So my football hobby was formed after watching players perform, and then I would go out with my friends passing the ball, having fun even to the extent of naming ourselves after the players we watched. At that time I also started following the "CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB" matches, my favourite colour being blue also influencing my choice of the club, and it didn't disappoint; being the best club in England in the last decade, I could not have been more proud.

ALMOST CHASED IT AS A PROFESSION

Doing this gave joy and happiness, though I would have loved to become a footballer, but the culture and belief were that footballers are not for children like me. Not knowing what it meant at that time, I would cry.

As I grew up, I started to understand why the statement was made; this was due to the fact that many children who left their homes to become footballers from the community in which I lived missed classes to put in the hard work and dedication.
Most of them picked up lifelong injuries due to the physical aspect of the sport. At the end of the day, 3 out of 50 get scouted to go play for a team, whether outside the country or in the country, and in most cases, those scouted are being asked to pay a certain amount of money to process their documents and other necessary thereby getting scammed in the process.
So it was based on luck, and then some of those who were not selected got discouraged and dropped out of the academy, most of them returning home now becoming a nuisance to the community, wasting their lives, and the rest going back to school will not be able to focus or even participate well in school, leading them to drop out. So these were a few of the reasons I was rebuked from taking that path.

BUT IT IS STILL MY FAVOURITE SPORT HOBBY

Despite everything, I still love this sport, as it involves calculation, skills, tactics, talent, hard work and dedication. But during my leisure I engage in this sport to connect with myself, test my ability to read the game, test my quick thinking skills, and everything else involved. It also helps to exercise the muscles in the body and also helps in fitness.

CONCLUSION

My love for football as my favourite sports hobby is immeasurable. Of all other sports, I chose this due to the passion I have for the game of football and also the other benefits it offers.
