How to Add or Correct Place Names in OpenStreetMap for Steem Atlas

Today I am here to discuss an important topic of OpenStreetMap which is helpful for the Steem Atlas. This is going to be an important post which will be useful for all those who are facing the problem of the places which were registered but these were not given any name.

Another case is that the name of the registered place can be wrong and it can require correction. I will also tell how to change the name of the place.

How to Add Name to the Unnamed Places

This is simple and easy to name those places which are not given any name yet and they are visible and registered on the map but without any name.

Here you can see the place is visible as registered on the map but it does not have any name for its recognition. It makes navigation hard.

If we see the same place on Steem Atlas we can see it as a visible place. But the point to be noted is that it does not have any name. This is the problem for the users to navigate this place on the steem atlas map. If a user wants to review this place and wants to search this place from Steem Atlas then the user cannot search with its name because the name of the place is not added to its properties.

We can see here someone has already reported this place. The user has mentioned that the name of the place is not added. He has mentioned the name of this place and some other properties of this place. We can see that the name of the place is Flavour Grill. So now I will teach you the next steps to add the name of this place.

Here is how you have to add the name of the unnamed places:

• You must be a registered user on OpenStreetMap.
• Log in to your account.
• The edit option will become visible.
• Choose Edit with ID (In browser editor)

Now we have to locate the place which we want to edit and we want to add the name of the place.

This is how the map OpenStreetMap interface looks when we enable the edit mode to open the editor. By clicking on the cross we get information of the error for which it was reported.

When we click on its location icon it shows all the edit features of the place. You can see all the edit features of the place on the left side of the screen. In all the fields there is no field to display the name of this place.

Now in order to add the name of the place we have to add the name field which will hold the name of the place.

• Click on add field.
• Select the name field
• Write the name of the place

You can see by following the above simple steps the name field has been added in the fields section. After adding the name field in the fields of the edit features of the place the name of the place is also visible on the map.

Now in order to implement the change we have to save this edit. For this click on the save button on the top right corner. Add a changeset comment and then click on save and it will add the name to the OpenStreetMap and that will also appear on Stem Atlas.

After adding the name now we need to remove the cross or warning from that place. For this we have to select the cross and it will open the comments about that place as you can see in the screenshot. At the bottom there is an option to comment and close. I have commented that the problem has been fixed and closed this matter. Now the cross or warning icon has been removed from the and a done or correct icon is visible.

So in this way we can add the name of the places which are not given any name. It will illuminate the map more and will make the navigation easy. If accidentally the name was given incorrectly then we can follow this method again to correct the name of the place.
