Beginning new term with a fresh vibe// Copying Note.
As the new term began, I was excited to reconnect with my colleagues at Kings and Queens Royal Schools and also meeting new set of students under my tutoring.
The previous term had been a whirlwind of activity, but I was determined to start this one on a fresh note. Literally, on Saturday, September 20, I spent the day copying out notes for the coming week onto cardboard sheets.
The cardboard sheets will serve as a visual aid, allowing my students to easily follow along as I teach. I envisioned the cardboard sheets plastered on the classroom wall, a constant reminder of the key concepts we will be exploring.
But I didn't just want the notes to be a one-way street. I wanted my students to take an active role in their learning, to engage with the material on a deeper level. So, I came up with a plan.
As I was teaching, I pointed to the relevant notes on the cardboard sheets, using them to illustrate key points and reinforce understanding. But I wasn't just be the one doing the explaining. I was also calling on students to come up to the front of the classroom, to use the notes to explain the concepts to their peers.
This approach served several purposes. For one, it gives me a sense of whether my students truly understood the material. If they could explain it clearly and confidently to their classmates, then I knew they had grasped it.
This also gives my students a chance to develop their public speaking skills, to build their confidence in communicating complex ideas.
As I stood in front of my classroom on Monday morning, surrounded by the cardboard sheets and eager students, I was proud of myself and my brilliant students. This is going to be a great term, one fill with learning, growth, and exploration. And it all started with a fresh vibe, a new approach to educational tasks, and a willingness to try new things.
