THE DEAD BRIDE WHO CAME BACK TO LIFE

Introduction

Ever imagined how your reaction would be if you see a dead person come back to life? how will you react. Would you run for your life like Usain Bolt or would you scream your lungs out?

Well, I’ll be sharing with us a story my big sister swore happened before I was born in the south west part of Nigeria. Whether you believe it or not, that’s your choice, but one thing is certain: after reading this, you won’t look at graveyards the same way again.

The bride who came back to life

Once upon a time, a beautiful couple yet to be married was preparing for their marriage and everyone was happy for them. On the day of the wedding, the groom slipped in a beautiful diamond ring into his wife’s finger. It was so expensive that even the bridesmaids started reconsidering their relationship.

But something tragic happened, moments later during the reception. Right there, in the middle of the joyous celebration, the new bride collapsed. People thought she’d fainted as a result of hunger and stressed from the occasion. They tried to revive her it didn’t work, so they rushed her to a nearby local general hospital where the doctor confirmed her dead.

You can imagine how devastated the family members and friends will be. A day that was supposed to be the happiest moment of their lives, now a sorrowful day. The family members alongside the groom, not wanting to drag things out, decided to bury her immediately at the church cemetery. She was laid to rest in her wedding gown, with all the expensive jewelry, including the expensive diamond ring.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the crowd, someone wasn’t mourning , he was thinking of how to steal the diamond ring because it was worth a fortune and why should it go to waste. Besides, she won’t need it where she was going. So, he’d to act fast now that the gravesite is covered with sand before the family members will cement it.

The next day, the young man, let’s call him “Maxie”, convinced his friend to join him on this mission to steal the diamond ring. They waited until midnight armed with ladder and shovel, sneaked into the cemetery undetected.

Friend: are you sure about this? He whispered.

Maxie: I’ve never been so sure in my life. So, don’t be scared. The dead has no business with the living.

So, they quickly dug the grave, like two people on a deadline. Maxie climbed down the ladder, so he could remove the jewelry. The mission was going pretty well until he tried to remove the diamond ring and noticed little movement on her fingers.

Maxie froze. His friend, still above ground, noticed it too.

Maxie: brother, I think she moved …

Friend: it’s just your imagination playing mind games on you. You fear too much.

Maxie tried to shake it off and pretend as if nothing happened but as he reached for necklace, her head moved slightly towards him.

Maxie dropped everything, climbed up the ladder and told his friend this mission is over, that he doesn’t like the movie he’s seeing.

But his friend, who had been waiting for his own share, jumped into the gravesite to complete the job.

Friend: You’re just scared. The dead don’t talk.

That’s when they heard it.

A faint, raspy voice saying “Help me!!”

The way the guy screamed, even witches in the neighboring village will definitely wake up. He flew from the grave without the help of a ladder and landed like a bag of rice and took off running.

Maxie, hearing his friend’s scream, didn’t even bother to ask questions or wait for his friend. He fling the shovel away and ran for his dear life.

The “dead” bride, who was buried alive, managed to climb out of her grave, covered with mud, shaking like a leaf, looking for help.

The scream of the men’s voice dragged the attention of the security guards to the cemetery to know the cause of all the commotion. When they flashed their torchlights, what did they see?

A supposedly dead bride, on her white gown, covered with mud, stretching her hands and staggering towards them like Michael Jackson in the song “thriller”, begging for HELP!!

The security guards didn’t wait for explanations. They threw their torchlight, arms, dignity, everything and took to their heels, screaming ghost.

But the poor bride wasn’t a ghost, she was just very thirsty. she remembered her way to the pastor’s house and went there. Weak and desperate, She banged his door like a tax collector, crying for help till the parish priest woke up wondering who it was disturbing him at that time of the night.

Pastor: who is that, he mumbled in his voice.

Bride: Please help me, I’m dying of thirst here.

That voice sounded familiar, but he shrugged the feeling off.

He opened the door slightly, peeped outside to see who the person was and in a matter of seconds, he lost his anointing.

Right there in his face, stood the dead bride they buried yesterday!

“The Blood of Jesus!”

The scream of the pastor could have raised all the dead in the cemetery except for this one that was already standing right in front of him.

The pastor vanished into his room, heading straight to his wife.

Pastor: Juliet! Juliet!! The dead bride has come to take our souls. She’s right in front of our door!.

Juliet: (still half asleep) baby pray!

Pastor: my sister, forget prayers. We’re talking about a demon sent from hell to take our souls and you are telling me to pray. We are relocating from this house immediately.

Meanwhile, the bride was outside, banging the door, begging for water to drink.

At this point, the pastor’s curiosity was killing him. After few minutes of casting, binding and speaking in tongues, he decided to take a step of faith to confirm who is at his doorstep.

The pastor came with a bowl of water and poured it on her to be sure she wasn’t a ghost. After he confirmed she was the real deal. He brought drinking water for her and she narrated the whole story, how she had been mistakenly buried alive, how she woke up in the coffin, and how those grave robbers accidentally saved her life.

By morning , the pastor took her to a different hospital to run some check up on her and broke the news to her family members and her husband. The news had already broke the media houses, spreading like wildfire about the dead lady who came back to life. People both far and near came to witness it , first hand. The doctor who declared her dead was arrested and the local hospital was shut down for the main time.

As for Maxie and his friend? Nobody saw them again. Rumors have it that they fled the community. Others say they developed phobia for weddings but one thing is certain, no one ever dared to steal from the dead again.
