Today, I want to share with you about a local Pitha Festival held in our area. Pitha is a proud part of our country’s tradition. A pitha festival not only represents this heritage locally but also globally. Preparing pitha itself feels like a festival, as people in both villages and cities get inspired by one another and joyfully prepare different varieties.

A stage for cultural events

The Cake Festival & Cultural Evening 2025 took place at the Keloka Preparatory School field, located inside the Keloka residential area of Parbatipur. Several officers from the Central Locomotive Factory were invited as chief guests for the event.

I decided to visit the festival with one of my friends. In the late afternoon, I went to the Keloka residential area with him, thinking I would find only a few stalls there. But to my surprise, there were many stalls, each offering a wide variety of pitha.

Some stalls had similar types of pitha, while others introduced unique ones. My friend and I tried several of them, and a few tasted absolutely delicious. The best part was that the prices were quite affordable, so anyone could enjoy these traditional treats.

Since the event was held in a railway residential area, most of the stall owners were either railway staff or members of their families. Still, there could have been a few outsiders as well, since not all faces were familiar to me.

Alongside the festival, there was also a cultural program arranged. Unfortunately, I left before the performances began, but I heard that some invited artists were scheduled to perform. I think organizing a cultural evening together with a pitha festival is quite rare and truly special.

At this festival, I also discovered some pitha varieties I had never seen before. Nowadays, people are more familiar with fast food both locally and globally, while many of these traditional pithas remain unknown. In fact, the younger generation has little to no idea about many of these items. That’s why I believe festivals like this play an important role in introducing them to our cultural heritage.

If festivals like this are organized regularly, they can open up great opportunities for those who are interested in making pitha, helping them showcase our country’s traditions while also gaining financial benefit. To me, such events are full of potential.
