🏵️One Picture One Story Week #95🏵️

Today, I suddenly remembered an old story. About our house, the house where we lived for a long time. The owner was out of the country, so we were somehow at ease. But suddenly one day they returned home, and told us that we would have to leave the house for two months. Hearing this, a kind of emptiness formed inside. Changing houses in Dhaka means great hardship and trouble. Finding a new place, packing things, and transporting everything was confusing. Still, there was nothing to do, so I agreed.

The day before leaving home, a strange thought came to my mind. I took a bunch of sweet potatoes that were lying in the kitchen to the balcony tub, and quietly buried them in the ground. I still didn't know if anything would come of it. Maybe it was stupid. But deep down, I felt like I was leaving a memory in this house. Maybe I wouldn't be able to find them when I returned, but I left them anyway.

When we returned home again after two months, I opened the door with a tired body and went inside. My eyes suddenly fell on the balcony. A wonderful green spread from the tub, sweet potato vines climbed up the window grilles, spreading outside. I stood there for a while. It seemed like I was dreaming! The little potato that I had buried in the ground seemed to be waiting for us. Even though we were not there, it silently grew, grew, and found a life of its own. At that moment, a strange joy spread in my heart. It seemed like the tree was telling me that even if everything is lost, new life can be born. Looking at this little tree, I learned a new patience.

Now every day I water that tree, take care of it. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is look at the balcony. How the vines are growing, how they are looking for light. Seeing that, I feel like I find a piece of peace. It seems that I also have a lot of pain, sadness, and disappointment in life, but this green teaches me to wait, and only after waiting does something beautiful come.

Today, I think, a small, fragile sweet potato has left a huge lesson in my life. Sometimes we do something very small, and from there our great joy, our big dreams are born. A tree is not just a tree to me, it is like a letter in my diary. A symbol of my own inner hope and love.
